    hi
i have the sky dish at home on the wall
what could be the size of the dish?
    are they all common size?

    2) i have one wire coming out from the dish
can i point this to more than 1 satellite for freeview?
if yes, how can i get the second wire coming from the dish?

    3) what could be the possible investment to get the 2nd wire, what should i buy?

sorry for my terminologies..but iam new to these

General Skydish (Zone2) size is about 60cm.

More than 1 satellite? I'm gonna guess you mean more than one receiver, one for Sky, one for free channels (BBC, ITV, etc). For this you need to change the LNB (the thing that is on the end of the dish that the wire goes into) from the single LNB you have now, to a quad LNB, which has 4 outputs. This will allow you to connect up to 4 digital receivers all at once!

Price: Hmm, are you going to do this yourself? Cable and quad LNB, I'd say anywhere between 50 and 100euro, depending on amount of cable and the price of the LNB.

You dont mention whether you have any receiver at the other end of the wire. (perhaps you have moved in to a house where the previous owners left behind their dish, quite a common occurrence these days).
Or maybe you have an existing Sky digibox and want another receiver for another room.
Or thirdly perhaps you require some of the free foreign channels?

Freesat (not Freeview) essentially means the channels on Sky satellite that you dont have to pay for and can receive with most FTA receivers as well as a cardless digibox.

If you dont have a receiver you will have to factor in the cost of that also. These may be picked up new or second hand from a variety of places but if you are completely new to the subject and not too good on DIY then I would suggest you contact one of the main satellite dealers/installers such as satellite.ie or others listed in the stickies above.
They can provide you with all the equipment necessary then install and set it up. After that you have no further costs.:)

    sorry for my incomplete questions

the landord has left behind his skybox and dish
so i can get sky channels
but also i want to receive some of the other free channels on other satellites

so i need - quad lnb, cables, receiver

    1) by pointing my dish to sky, by connecting a quad lnb, which other satellites can i receive?
(i dont want to lose sky signals)

2)is it easy to remove single lnb and fix quad lnb on my own?
if difficult, will some person do it for me and how much do they charge (roughly)

If you want to receive futher satellites, you'll need a different dish... the Skydish is no good for multi-satellite reception.

If you want to keep your existing channels and also get other channels from different satellites, then a quad lnb is of little use.
That will only get you the same channels but allow you to feed them to satellite receivers in different rooms.

What you will need is either another dish with lnb, or a multi-lnb holder (to fit your existing dish) and an extra lnb.
Another more expensive option is a motorised dish, but this would be more complicated to use in conjunction with a Sky digibox.

You could move your existing dish to point at other satellites but the digibox will not be able to tune them in as it is effectively designed only for reception of Sky/Astra2 channels.

So you will then need an FTA receiver. In conjunction with a multi-lnb holder and up to 2 extra lnbs on a larger dish you could receive channels from up to 3 satellites. It is unlikely you could get a multilnb system to work satisfactorly with a Sky dish.

You should realise there are very few English speaking channels on the other satellites here.

For reception of a single satellite, a standard 80cm with lnb will suffice for the common ones

If you do require channels on both Astra1 and Hotbird, you could get an extra 80cm dish, with multilnb holder and 2 lnbs plus an FTA receiver.

For more satellites you would probably require extra dishes or a single motorised one.

a sky box is a complete pig to use on any other satellite
it can be done , but just isn't worth the effort

sky box can't control a motor
sky box can't choose a different lnb that is pointing at another satellite ( you can get some switches that react to on/off signals but it has to be on the scart because it don't power the lnb down )
sky box can't search for channels
sky box can't easily access channels that aren't on the epg

If you have a sky box then it's great for English language stuff
Most of the freeview stuff should be on the SKY epg anyway ( except for some HD stuff )

    hotbird = italian / arabic
astra 1 = german ( eurosport is FTA but on analog if you have an OLD sky box )

as for turning the dish around
LIdl/Aldi do satellite kits that will pick up the foreign channels for about €100.

not using sky box to pick up astra using a different fta set top box, but if i stick a motor onto the sky dish will t work?

u bolts and bracket of sky dish will not fit motor arm. Get a standard 80 cm for good reception of most satellites. I would recommend Triax TD78.
