    Hi Guys,

Broke my tibia and fibula 14 weeks ago tonight playing our first league game of the year(Anniversary is in 15 mins actually!) Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience and what did they they go through in their recovery to get back on the GAA pitch. I had an IM Nailing of the tibia with screws in my knee and ankle. I have had 4 weeks physio with good progress. Still have trouble with distal fixation of my foot. I can walk unaided but there is pain there and have a limp. Have gotten the go-ahead from the consultant to put full weight in it though. Muscle definition has returned with almost daily visits to the gym/pool.

    Any thought/prior experience to share?

Was in Australia in 2002 and long story short from swimming in bondai beach (really strong undercurrents) my calf muscle was torn outta place and pushed around to the front of my shin :(

Still affects me to this day but its been steadily getting worse so back to the physio i go though she will tell me there isnt much that can be done short of surgery but i got a full season outta it(the physio) last year might try that again

Its gotten to the point i cant bloody walk in a hurry without it getting tight and hurtin like hell!

That sounds awful, trying to understand how it could happen! Did you get through the season with it though? I'm out nearly 4 months now so i'd love to be able to get back out into the field again

Dislocated kneecap and was only out for two weeks.Kept it secret from gaffer and said I had a bad virus.I only atempted to play because at right-corner forward theres no pain worse then missing an open goal, which I did:o

I did a lot a walking while injured(against doctor's orders) and he said it was amazing recovery.

This was in 2002 it hasnt been 100% since but with a good bit of intensive physio i can just about manage a season out of it the physiotherapist reckons this is not only a stop gap solution but that im doing a fair bit of damage to myself in the process. Luckily im a forward so can spend less time runnin around the pitch then some of the other lads, In fact i have an appointment on tuesday mornin for a surgical consult so here's hopin!

well lads an updaye regards recovery. the leg is coming on with little or no discomfort when walkin on flat ground. uneven ground poses a different problem though. cant jog without a limp but its coming on now and is almost 6 months since it happened. the consultant has said theres superb healing there but he's concerned that I cannot jog on it yet. I am scheduled to have another operation on it in a few weeks to remove the 4 locking screws, 2 in my knee and 2 in my ankle to bring on dynamisation of the bone which should aid healing. Anyways my club have exited championship disappointinly at the quarter final stages and now i'm left facing a rehab period in the gym with no action to look forward to next year. Anyone have previous experiences of such injuries your advice and experience is welcome and also an open question regarding motivation for the gym i just find the bike, treadmill, cross trainer very very boring!!
