I saw him last night in Vicar Street.
    Excellent gig.

One thing I was wondering about. He said something like, you guys should know all about someone having something they said taken completely out of context and having a whole load of **** dropped on them for it.

My gf and I couldnt think what incident he was referring to. Any ideas?

That wasn't to do with all his jokes about Richard Hammond's crash, was it?
He got a load of stick for it.
But in fairness...exactly what context can you put "I wish he was decapitated and his head rolled and landed in front of his wife" into?

i'll give it you straight, like a pear cider.....
we thought he might have been talking about Tommy Tiernan as he did specifically refer to the irish audience

From the Daily Mail. Never ones to kick up a furore over out-of-context quotes, are they?
I can't remember if that part was where he said it. It might have been, but it wasn't directly connected, I don't think, because I don't remember him commenting on coverage he's gotten for his show.

    Context is everything.
If you see the entire show, you can see that he's making a point about celebrities (specifically Jeremy Clarkson, but there are others) repeatedly coming out with bigoted remarks and attacks and when they are called on it, claiming that "it's just a joke."
He even explicitly lampoons this behaviour after saying that about Hammond, by saying "IT'S JUST A JOKE! IT'S MEANT TO BE FUNNY! It's just a joke. But... coincidentally... it's also what I believe."

I'm pretty sure he didn't say the part about Hammond's head landing in front of his wife (at least, he didn't at our gig). He did say something about metal bits blinding him, which was in reference to Clarkson derogatorily calling Gordon Brown "one-eyed", while Hammond laughed at it.

So funny. I think it's his delivery that makes it funnier every time he says it.

I just looked this up and that makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I knew it must have been something Irish because of the way he said "you guys" or whatever. He was definitely meaning something Irish.
I didn't know about that Hubbub over Tiernan until just now, so that's probably it. The timing's right too.

Im a huge fan of stewart lee, have been for years, was at the gig last night. Hugely disappointing! lot of people there clapping like seals to prove to people around them that they got the jokes. I dont feel im being harsh when i say that it was extrmely bad

Where did you meet him? What was he like?

Really enjoyed the gig on Monday night, could have listened to him all night. Great show.

That would have definitely been about Timmy Tiernan i'd say. I don't think Lee gives the DM the oxygen of publicity after he took legal action against them over something dodgy in a review they wrote of his "Jerry Springer: The Opera" musical.
