SIP connection times using blueface & eircom

I'm wondering has anyone else noticed how long it takes to negotiate a connection to an irish land line, over an eircom DSL line with blueface? It seems to take about 20 seconds to connect.

Any time i've been outside of ireland, used a BT dsl line and Sympatico/BELL dsl line, and it almost connects immediately.

Have noticed the delay in ireland with both a soft phone and ATA.

Are eircom messing with the traffic & slowing down the SIP negotiation process?

I've noticed something similar and it seems that the eircom netopia routers don't handle DNS SRV lookups well.

What VoIP client do you use?
It may be worth disabling DNS SRV if your client uses it, or alternatively change to using the IP address instead of DNS name to see if it helps with the speeds.

A DNS loopup shows sip.blueface.ie as
    Name: sip.blueface.ie
    Address: 194.213.29.100

Try hitting the # key at the end of the number. It will connect immediately rather than waiting for a period of inactivity to signify you have finished entering the number

I've used both XLite and a linksys PAP 2 ATA adapter, both seem the same.

I'd imagine that the DNS lookup for sip.blueface.ie would only happen once, not ever time i make a call. Also the the ATA will continuously poll the SIP server ever 30 seconds or so to let it know its still alive...
