    Hi

got a mail that Digidave is giving away free routers but you have to £18 for postage.

They have 3 but only work with ADSL Broadband not on Cable broadband (UPC/NTL) so not much use for us unless we plan changing to Smart.

I've used the Thomson unit they're offering here with cable broadband: http://www.digidave.co.uk/jshop/product.php?xProd=323&xSec=30

You can get a config file from Digidave that will allow LAN port 4 on the router to be used as a WAN port, so you can actually use the Thomson 716 with a cable modem.

    Thanks, ordered 1.

Do you still have the file? if you do when you get it can I get a copy of it?

I wonder if any other router has a similar file. Will search google.

Didn't notice that, but once they have Warranty I'm ok with it, bought a few Refurbished items over the years and never had any problems. hope is the same now.

Will any of they work for Eircom broadband?
Would they be quick enough for gaming?

The 2Wire 1701 will work fine with Eircom, and is 802.11g wifi, so should be fine for gaming. If your 360 is wirelessly-enabled it will work fine with the 2Wire.

The first two should work fine for xbox, though my preferred one would be the first (the home one) as it has 802.11g while the netopia is 802.11b. Eircom DSL is a bit weird at the minute. their ADSL2 seems to be compressed slightly different from the other broadband providers. I had trouble getting anything other than a Netopia to work properly on it. A 12mb line was only coming in as 8mb using a DSL2/2+ Zyxel router, eircom tech support werent much help :(

Not sure about the last router on the list.

About the postage, £18 is a bit steep but I picked up a wireless PCi card for £12 and the total postage dropped to £12 so approx €30 total for pci card + broadband router = happy me!

Freespeech.ie were doing a deal like this, join one of their plans (min contract 1 month?) and get a refurbed Thompson VoIP router for €10.

jayteecork: This is what you would need for 3G sharing (reuires 3G usb modem)

Exactly. This is not a "free router".

It is a refurbished unit and he is making a profit by charging the crazy postage price. Please don't post such lame 'free' offers.
