Stuck in a job rut

    Hi Guys

OK.....so basically when I left school I hadn't a clue what I wanted to do, so I took a course that sounded interesting enough (hospitality-related.)
I graduated after 3 years with a diploma, great, etc...but now it is not the field I want to work in at all. I though hotel work would interest me, but I did a stint there and the irregular working hours and crap pay were more than enough to out me off. Since then, I've had a couple of mundane office jobs...and I am in one at the moment.
But for a while now, I've been thinking about getting into Recruitment/HR - I'd love to start off as a Recruitment Administrator, but every job I see you need at least 2 years experience or a qualification...I really don't want to go back to college again and spend 4 more years studying and not qualifying until I'm 30......
    I'm stuck in a rut!

Have you tried getting on to a recruitment agency? They will sometimes take on college-leavers or inexperienced people in all kinds of areas as trainee consultants/administrators. As long as you have the right kind of proactive, money-motivated attitude I'm sure they'd be interested.

You could probably find a couple that specialise in hotel/leisure recruitment so your qualification is still relevant. Then you can look at doing a part-time qualification whilst you work to progress further if that's what you want to do.

    Good luck!

I think you need to ask yourself what it is you want from a job. You dont like irregular hours and crap pay. Have you researched what sort of hours recruiters work and what pay is involved? Have you looked into other aspects of hotel jobs besides the one you tried? Does your course in hospitality qualify you for working in some other tourism/hotel related fields?

Go back to college at night.

The National College of Ireland run all kinds of part-time HR courses: http://www.ncir.ie/site/programmes.asp?pageId=1876&sectionId=1&level=1

I know you don't want to go back to college, but laziness is a terrible excuse to stay in a rut.
