Needing help with job title: Grade III Clerical Officer?

Hi

I was reading the job ads and saw this title over and over again. So I tried to find out what someone actually needs to do to be a Grade III Clerical Officer? As far as I found out the grade tells one how much you can earn working in this position.
Now I wonder does the grade mean additionally that someone has to study and bring a special diploma/ degree to be such a grade III person? Or is grade I the entry level posistion and with promotion in job one gains a second, third and so on grade?

The grade refers to the seniority and the payscale.
So a grade 5 is on a different payscale and has more responsibility than a grade 4, a grade 4 gets paid more than a grade 3 etc etc.

Usually higher grades will require more qualifications but this is not always the case. The qualifications will be specified in the ad.

I would say the grading works the other way. Grade III is lowest and Grade I highest.

Clerical officer is just basic admin work, typing up reports, sending faxes, paying invoices, filing, answering phones things like that.

No, grade III is entry level and the numbers go up rather than backwards. There were grade I and II positions before but they were done away with for some reason. I think grade II was a typist but that's encompassed in a grade III now.

Yeah go for it. I'm a grade C which is the equivalent to a Grade 4 clerical and didn't go to college. I had loads of experience but never went to college. Going for a Grade 3 job, I don't think they'd expect you to have anything other than school & a bit of experience. Just be sure to read up on the place you're applying for & know a bit about the job. Normally the job description is quite detailed, so you know exactly what you're applying for. Just be aware that you'd be starting at the base point of the salary scale and then go up a point every year!
