I have a meeting with the head of the pharmacology department of my college tomorrow about the possibility of me doing pharmacology in second year. Can someone give me some interesting topics to talk about, like certain areas I have been looking at etc etc, anything that might impress him. I know this is checky but I'm desperate to get in. Cheers

I'd recommend maybe checking the website for the pharmacology department of your college or in a different college and check what some of the research interests of some of the lecturers.

For example, one of our lecturers had done work on how long term use of MDMA (ecstasy) can blow out nerves releasing serotonin in the brain, which then removes a therapeutic target (the serotonin transporter) which can be used to treat depression. Another interesting topic I looked up at one stage is the role of NMDA receptors for GABA and their involvement in long term potentiation (which is implicated in learning and memory)

Not sure if they're the best examples but they're a couple of the things that I've found interesting in pharmacology so far (it's only been one year though!).

EDIT: Ah, only saw that your post was from last night. If the meeting was today, hope it went well!

Really will depend on what the particular interviewer is interested in.

Go to the university website, look up research, look at his research group and that should give you an idea of where to go.

Pharmacology can be diverse with everything from drug absorption to ion transport. A good bet is usually epithelial cell biology.
