Have a mound of old coin, does anyone know where there are bank branches in Dublin where there are machines which count up the coinage?
Don't fancy bagging it all myself..
Thought I saw a post here a few months back..

Why not bring it into the bank and let them sort it out?

Count them yourself, see how high you can stack a pile of 1c's.

I've a load of change I've sorted and bagged in the proper bank bags - well over €100.

I've heard a rumour that banks are either refusing to take it, or will charge a commission to take it now.

    Is this true?

Coinstar have machines placed around the city. They are self service and charge a commission of about 10%. There is a brand new one installed in Tesco Dunlaoghaire Shopping Ctr. You put in the cash and they give you a voucher that can be cashed at the checkout. Some machines can credit up your Laser/Visa card which is a bad idea because it is just another way the system can track your movements.

Takes only a little while to count the money yourself. Why bother losing 10% to have a machine count it? Just whack on some tunes and it's sort of therapeutic (sp?)

Whiskey, I reckon banks will freak out if you bring the money in loose but bag it up and they just weigh it on the machine and lodge it without hassle.

Yeah. I know what you mean man. The MAN is always trying to track me and figure out how much change I've been accumulating in my change jar back home.

You'd happily use your Laser or Credit card in the shop but you won't have credit put on it in case 'the system' tracks your movements? What are you using your bundle of 2c coins for, funding terrorism?

EXCELLENT!! I was wondering if there was any machine near me!!

    I have a LOAD of 1c, 2c and 5c that I just can't be arsed counting

...do i have to put them in individually??

This also reminds me that I am to go to the bank!!

Careful now, those coin counting machines have the habit of not counting correctly (ie, coins go down the wrong slots, get stuck...).

The Bank of Ireland in Baggot St. has a machine, and there is no charge. You just get a receipt at the end of it, and bring it to the teller, and hey presto! your money's in the bank.

I just use up all the copper coins in Tesco at the self service till buying whatever - just throw all your coins into the cup receptacle thing. :pac:

In my local Tesco I noticed recently they now have a small slot for you to post coins through, so you can't feed it a small handful at a time.

I love filling up a tin with change and eventually counting it. There's always a lot more than you expect to be in it when you look at it. That's the reward for the effort of counting it.

    I know!
Got a grand out of the big bucket before but that was about 4 or 5 years ago!
