    Hi there,

I have just updated to the XDA orbit II, was using a xda orbit and like it so much couldn't wait to get my hands on the orbit II. :D I have a lot of text and MMS messages on the orbit I want to transfer across to my new PDA, how can I do this as active sync doesn't seem to sync my text messages.

What I though and tried was coping the messaging file from windows onto the storage card and then just copying this into windows file of the new PDA but that didnt work. Are the SMS and MMS messages held within a file in on the mobile windows system.:(

    Hope someone can help

    Thanks

Why can't you just back them up on the Orbit with a backup app and restore them on the Orbit II. I use PPC PIMbackup, a freeware backup app. http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-pim-backup-v2-8.html Just download and run the exe from your device. It backs up and restores text messages pretty well, not sure about MMS though (could be problems with corruption with backups of MMS, so just play around with it first). Since it's freeware it might be worth looking at though.
Incidentally i could never backup emails properly with it though. Alternatively commercial backup solutions are things like Sprite Backup. BTW there probably is a simple way of just finding the messaging folder on the device and copying it over but i don't know it, sorry. How are you finding the Orbit II btw. Any problems with touchscreen responsiveness? I got its counterpart the TC and it's a very nice all-in-one device.

Thanks for the suggestion will give that a go, was looking at the smsbackup program too, not too worried about mms as they are mostly photos that can be saved on the storage card anyway.

The new orbit 2 is great, so far have noticed a small time lag on the touch screen proformance but am sort of between the two units until I have all my data and applications set up on the new device. Will be using it much more in the next few days and thats when I will really notice any problems. Will let you know how I get along with the PIMbackup. cheers

Many thanks does just what it says on the tin, sms and contacts all restored on new device. :)

As Regards the touch screen so far am not a fan of the touch screen keyboards and still find it quicker to use the stylus to type with.
