Especially in the hamilton. Seriously, no printers, no credit acceptors, and about 10% of the computers in the hamilton actually work. Went to IS services about it, "not our department"- then went to the printing helpdesk but no one was there. Probably on a 4 hour lunch break. Seriously, how the hell is this the 76th best university in the world?? I'm sending this from an internet cafe!!

    Grrrr! Rant over.

Get over your moaning about the Hamilton. The computer are broken in the arts block too you just don't realise that because you don't try to use them. And usually the Hamilton has a better record for printers than the arts block or the 24 hour access room. As for the current problem, and it does get worse at this time of year, more students printing due to the insane amount of cramming going on for exams, printers break/run out of paper quicker and no one calls the printer people, who are separate to ISS.

Ive noticed things going a bit downhill in that respect recently too.

Cash acceptors not working, I printed out a mammoth document on one printer, it looked fine when printing but when it finished and I picked it up and ink was'nt set properly and the thing just smeared everywhere, very annoying...especially around exam time when your trackng from Aran an Pharsaigh to the arts building to get things printed:mad:

Computers in the hamilton never ever work and I dont know how many times I have sat down to a computer over the last few months only to have to change seats cause the thing isnt working:mad:

Defo needs improvement next year (although I wont really care because Ill be gone:D)

And I appreciate our lab in Dept of Statistics, and the fact that we have use of the CS labs, and the iMacs in the Arts block :p Stop whinging about broken printers and go buy one, cheaper and much more useful in the long run...

Aye, it is times like this that i realise how lucky I've been over the last four years having access to labs which generally work fine (even with ridiculuous log in times) and free printing. I <3 the CS department.

The lads in the Parsons building get free printing and plenty of computers, as do the computer science lads. Civil Engineers get the museum building with its 8 or 9 pcs in the drawing office, no printer at all, or go use the handful of working computers in the hamilton or laser huts and pay for printing if the printers work. Ya can go across to the civil eng labs and use the computers up there with the shítty little printer that never has toner in it. Mech eng lads have up to date autocad, the civil eng labs have Autocad 2000 or something-any cad drawings I did at home this year weren't backwards compatable and I found out the hard way. What a joke.

Brought in my laptop the other day and the network wasn't working, today: the network problems and all the printers not working even after the computers came back online.

What a load of balls. At least there was a couple of decent birds in the pav tonight even with the match on!:pac:

Well now in all fairness CS have toner issues quite regularly as well. Last year it ran out a week or two before exams and wasnt replaced for ages.

Main problem for me is that my ID card doesn't swipe into anything! Library, computer rooms, printers, bit of a joke to be honest.

Ah but I don't see these things...:p I just have my pals in CS telling me about their free printing! Also, one of the lads in my project group's card swipes into the cs labs and his account still works, so at least one civil engineer gets free printing in your labs crash!

I used to use the printer in the Parsons, then they put a lock on the door!:eek:Cheeky bástards!

This one time I printed out something that was €1.20 and nothing came out of the printer. My money was gone from the account but nothing was in the printer. What was the problem? No toner. I was like who the hell is toner and what has he done with my money?

The printers were out yesterday because of the network problems (screwed up the print server and took most of the day to fix) as for money being deducted for a job that didn't print, just email the (print)helpdesk and ask for the money to be credited back to your account!

The hamilton computer rooms are a shambles though, i think there were 5 pcs working in there the last time i went down there... Not to mention the problems with wireless in the Hamliton library. To top it all off the system crash yesterday :( Are all of ISS on holidays or something? or do they just not care about us science folk?

Wouldn't it be great if students insisted on using Linux?

We could save a fortune on MS licences and bloated hardware. We could build a proper junior common room for example. Or how about a nice lawn where the "laser huts" currently are?

Most stuff tends to work in the Mac room tends to usually work...which is nice..

one of the lesser known places in the arts block

Ah the arts block computer room is just a joke tbh..about half of them are working. And they seem to be too sensitive to actually handle a word document and the internet at the same time..they just crash, and you have to turn it off, or force it to go off and then leave it for a while or else it will say 'Missing operating system'. One day last week I had 5 of them in a row crash on me...why?? I know the network is probably under stress but still. It's so handy for last minute essay finishing and printing though, because the Irish office where I hand them in is right outside..
