Hi all, I'm currently in the market for a new camera, its mainly for college work(I do visual communications) but over the past while iv really gotten interested in photography.

Basically im looking at something like a Canon 40D or a similar SLR, ill probably be buying off ebay to get a good deal but before i take the plunge i was looking for some feedback off some people around here.

    Cheers.

Just for your information, the mods have been pushing the FAQ section of late as the forum is getting swamped with requests like yours - not that I care personally, it'd just be nice to acknowledge the hard work people put into creating a "Frequently Asked Questions" sticky.

As for your request, the 40D is a great looking piece of kit. But it's not exactly entry-level, and its price reflects this. Have you looked at the 400D? It's top-drawer and costs close to half of what the 40D does (with the latter you're paying for things like 6.5fps). Also pick the right e-bay seller, you don't want to end up with a refurb.

I was looking at the 400D, is there much difference other than the FPS? if thats just it then illl probably go with that then.

    400D is 3fps with a 2.5" lcd screen, 450D is 3.5 but with a 3"lcd screen
I owned both and while not a massive diff I far prefer the 450D.
Also the 400/450D is a wee bit smaller than the 40D so it's a wee bit better if you don't want to be noticed/mugged. :)

Is prob the safest and cheapest ebay site.
