What did you think? Wouldn't entice me to go back to it with the fast forward bit at the end... very bizarre.

the fast forward bit at the end is a very original and bright idea i think

i was however not all that impressed with the fact that they managed to tie up several loose ends regarding gabby and carlos maid , dylans secret past and catherines psycho ex husband , all in the space of about 3 minutes
not to mention the bit with toms daughter kala wrapping up rather neatly

the only charechter that is still really watchable is GOP poster girl bree

They needed to do the fast forward because they'd written almost every character into a corner. The series was built on the mysteries of their back stories and after series 2 it was blatantly obvious they'd explained everyone's and new characters weren't packing the same punch. Then series 3 had the Bree disaster with Marcia cross having to pull out of half a season and storylines hastily rewritten. Season 4 worked in part but the writers strike messed it up somewhat.

Season 4 was definitely about correcting the mistakes of the previous two years, Kayla (only introduced to give the Scavo's some story), Gabby and Carlos, Bree... I'm hoping season 5 will be reinvigorated with a definite sense of direction and the 'what happened previously' will make for an interesting element where we explore how the characters ended up in their current situation.

I thought it was good, a bit lost-esq with the
flash forward, it was funny too, especially seeing how gabby turns out, no longer glamorous with two kids:D and what the hell is the story with Mike? Susan is with Adam, I recon they'll kill Mike off:eek:
Its gonna be one of those things people are either gonna love it or hate it.

Was enjoying the finale up until the fast forward bit; don't know what they are trying to achieve there when we still have another 2/3 series to go (apparently). That sort of thing usually happens at the very end of a series, doesn't it? I can't think of any examples off hand at the moment, but I hate when any programme does it anyway because I hate not knowing what happens in the middle between when the series ends and the '5 years later', or however long it is.

I can see where the OP is coming from regarding being enticed back to watch it; if we already know how it turns out, why bother watch it? Now I definitely will watch it because I love it, despite all its trashiness! However, I would have prefered they didn't show us that ending. The only 'shocking' bit(s) were Susan not being with Mike 5 years later (who was she with? I recognised him and though it looked like Katherine's husband all cleaned up, but wasn't sure) and that Gabi had kids - if they were her kids. The one that was sitting on her bed was definitely older than 5 years old, even Maynard (poor child) won't be that old in five years time!

Besides that, Bree had a fairly banal 5 years time, while Lynette's fate as a mother of a criminal gang was always sealed!

Anyway, I enjoyed this series just gone a tonne more than the last, so hopefully the next one will be even better.

until the bit with mike being replaced by someone else, i thought the fast forward thing looked bland....i mean it was obvious from the teaser they gave us that bree has a successful career out of food now...that gaby and carlos will have some 'amusing' adventures with their kids...(how cute was it though when the little one ran out of the closet with gabby shouting vera wang after her!!)...and lynette with her delinquent boys....her and tom will never last the stress....

i thought though overall that last nights episode was good...they couldn't really drag on catherine's past any longer, it all had to come to a head. i thought it was very funny especially brees comments about orson not throwing his calligraphy talents back in her face!!!! hillarious!!! they are such square pegs!!

the fast forward bit at the end is a very original and bright idea i think
Except that it isn't. "Battlestar Galactica" did it at the end of S2 and "One Tree Hill" did it for its fifth season. And they're just the ones I'm aware of.

Still it's a decent tool to re-invigorate the show and bring in fresh storylines. I assume they'll have new neighbours with a mysterious past..

I think it was a bit of a lazy option by scriptwriters to be honest. If the series was strong enough to continue they wouldn't have to resort to stunts like this to re-invigorate it and bring viewers back.

The guy Susan was with isn't Adam by the way..

No, it wasn't Adam, Katherine's husband. It was Gale Harold, a totally different actor to the one that played Adam.

They jut started back at square 1!

5 more years of hidden history to dig up in another 4 seasons!

I still don't get why they'd show us the end result of 5 whole years worth of storylines when they're contracted for several more seasons. They've taken away a big part of the surprise element, which is what gives the show its appeal in the first place imo. That and the writing in itself

2/3 more series?, I was thinking they could wrap it up in one...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,127 ✭✭✭✭kerry4sam

overall it was good that they tied up some loose strings but I liked Mike in it being honest, a more of a down-to-earth level-headed man similar to Toms character and didn't want him gone, hope he lasts another full one at least

Does anyone know if they are going to continue from where the show ended, five years from now? Or was that just a quickie glimpse of how things MIGHT turn out? Its interesting as a "what if" scenario, but why would they choose to leap frog five whole years?

As mentioned earlier, a similar thing happened with Battlestar at the end of season 2. Even though the loss of time wrecked my head, it was a necessary evil of the storyline they were keeping to. I don't really see how a fast forward is warranted in Housewives, other than a cop-out for writers who've hit a brick wall............

I assume that it was "five years later" is now... So we'll find out what happened in the previous five years but we'll also advance their stories and in three years time when its scheduled to end, they'll be in a very different place.

Not forgetting 'Six Feet Under' also which fast forwarded in time until each and every of the main characters had passed away.

Not quite the same - it was the last episode ever. The other examples are where shows continued on after fast forwarding, developing new story possibilities as a result (and junking those they didn't like). Another example is "Alias".
