Car trade advice

Hi all... I went to start my car this morning and it was dead as a door nail! Its a 99 Citroen Xsara and I have been pumping money into it for a long time. I can't really afford to change right now but at this stage, I don't think I have a choice!

Can anyone give me advice on a good car to trade to? I have no idea what all this new VRT stuff means and everytime I try to read up on it, it just goes way over my head! What I need is a small to mid-sized car - around 1.4 that is reliable, nippy, inexpensive and being female - stylish! I do alot of driving so I would like something with good fuel economy.

I love the new Mazda 2... does anyone know if the price of that car will be coming down with the new VRT or is that just a myth? Tax will be €150 for the year! It would be a huge strain for me to afford a new car but if the price was coming down... maybe...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chances are it just needs a new battery.

That's the best bet. If it's a 99 model it might still have the original battery, since modern sealed ones can easily last for 10 years nowadays. A new one will cost you around €80 or so from a factor, so it might be worth that rather than paying out on another car, since yours won't fetch a lot of money if it's a non-runner for whatever reason.

I think you guys are right, thanks... I'll get someone to look at the battery this evening. My initial enthusiasm about trading has been worn down all day from looking at the prices of cars and exactly how much of a dent they will make on my already non-existant pay packet! I don't know how people ever afford mortgages lol! Thanks for the help...
