i was reading an interview with trevor sargent in the fingal independent nd he says he's priority for next year is too un grade the 1911 animal act. knowing he's an anti field sports, i have a feeling he'll use this as another stealth attack on the hunting community. can any legal eagles on here shed some light on what he plans to up-grade.

well what we do know is that the Greens are adivsed by a panel made up of members from a hardcore animal rights group,Animal rights action network.Gerry Boland is one of their advisors.
they are totaly opposed to all forms of hunting, shooting etc
    below i've pasted their policy

When in government, the Green Party will introduce legislation to end blood sports.

7.2 The Party will campaign for heavy penalties for organisers of, and participants in, illegal blood sports.

7.3 The Party encourages the alternatives of drag hunting and drag coursing.

7.4 The Party will campaign through the European Parliament for legislation, which will make it an offence to organise or participate in any illegal blood sport in Europe.

7.5 The Party seeks an end to the practice whereby Irish greyhounds are routinely and in large numbers exported to Spain, where they have been ill-treated, exploited and killed.

7.2 The Party will closely monitor, through the Animal Welfare Agency (AWA) , other sports which are based on the use of animals to ensure that no cruelty is taking place.

7.3 The Party calls for research into alternative methods of animal population management other than killing, and the implementation of these methods

I've no idea what he plans to do to it, but here's the original Act:

    Protection of Animals Act, 1911

You'll find it cited elsewhere like that or in the old UK style like: 1 & 2 Geo. 5. Ch. 27

The Irish legislation that I've found that refers to that act so far has been:

Protection of Animals (Amendment) Act, 1965
    Wildlife Act, 1976
Protection of Animals Kept For Farming Purposes Act, 1984
    Control of Dogs Act, 1986
    Abattoirs Act, 1988
    Control of Horses Act, 1996

and a bunch of Statutory Instruments.

I think you can find out what is planned for upcoming legislation but I can't remember where you have to look. Once a Bill is published and starts to make its way through the Oireachtas you'll find it here.

Proably aiming again at the Ward Union Stag hunt.As the antis keep argueing that the stags are domestically kept. Then proably the greyhound industry as well with the dog export.

Pity ol Gormey though, now he is in power there must be a ski slope of mails in his office every morning from ICABS wanting him to ban this, and that, and being quizzed in the Dail by his ol pal and fellow anti Tony Gregory.Must be head wrecking.:D:D

Post deleted thehair - seriously, not today, we're likely to have Joe Fluffy reading in before continuing last night's hatchet job, last thing we need is to give him stuff to take out of context like that.

After losing face with the M3, another pile of stealth taxes being promoted by the them and the general inability of this government to do something about anything might just see the electoral upgrading of the Green Party to oblivian comes the next general election.

P.S. If the Greens really gave a damn about Irelands environment we would have a nuclear power station under construction by now instead of buying the nuclear juice from the UK.

    Okay, hold up.
The changes to the wildlife and animal acts, yes, those are very on-topic for the forum.
Who's going to be voted out and why we dislike whichever party we dislike - that's for the politics forum.
    Back on topic please.
