A friend of mine is visiting for a few days with her 5 year year old. Any suggestions on how to entertain a kid in Galway, particularly on a rainy day? The acquarium is about the only thing I can think of.

There's that kids games place at the back of B&Q in Knocknacarra

Apart from that... tv... it was good enough for me when I was a kid!

The Sea Life Aquarium out in Salthill is great for kids, my little lad loved it, had to drag him out of it. Spent about 3 hours in there, and there are a few demonstrations too, so the kids can touch some of the little critters !
Also the big pool with the kids play area beside it in Leisure land

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I didn't know about most of those places, the butterfly centre looks interesting. I'd enjoy that myself.

Just ring them first to make sure they've opened for the summer yet.

I drove by last week, on the way back from the coral beach, and it looked Very closed !!
There are plenty of free things to keep kids amused in Galway. Visit one of the playgrounds, get some bread and feed the ducks in woodquay, visit the liberary, visit the beach / kick the wall on the prom. It depends a lot on the weather. It is not cold at the moment, so even if it rains, get out the wellies and jump in puddles!!
