Fantastic pictures, I have a 100mm Macro I am starting to realise that a ringlite flash is an essential add on...is it difficult to use?
Any ideas/model were to buy or is Uncle in HK stilll the best?

Easy to use. Makes a world of difference. From HK or Uncle sam no difference.

Neither! Just a lot of patience. Though I must try the freezer thing some time. Might save a bit of time.

A tack sharp lens. I'm using the EF-S 60mm macro. A good ringlite flash and loads of patience.

I heard that's a great virtue to have anyway :D

Oh, I meant to say fridge not freezer (unless you want to actually freeze the poor critters!) The cold will slow down their metabolism and most insects go into a sort of coma state (harmless though).

It was early evening. The air was getting a bit cool. Probably the reason he let me get so close.

I don't find any of the above funny or harmless!

I never said it was funny.

Do you find sleeping harmful to your body? The effect of a slow metabolism is just that - a sleep like state. And that's why I said not to put them in the freezer (where they would die, but the fridge where they'd just go to sleep for a while).

I respect your opinion in relation to the treatment of all animals but personally I treat all living things (plant or animal) with great respect and do unnecessarily damage them (a person has to eat though). Putting a fly (in a box obviously) in the fridge for 5 minutes is just as damaging as holding a plant in place with a peg to stop it moving. I see nothing wrong in doing something like that if I wanted to (I don't particularly take many macros so I most likely won't need to).

I really like the first one, great detail and interesting composition, cropping out the legs here was a good idea, the photo grabs me a lot more this way.Great shot.

I have to say I find the second one a bit weaker in comparison.I would have preferred a higher angle to get rid of the intruding petal on the bottom left.Maybe this is what you were going for but the in focus part of it is a huge distraction to what should be the main draw of the photo, the bee.

Thanks for the comments Inibaz. I agree with you.

The 1st one is a 100% crop. Only because the detail was so good. I had to show it off. I also changed the orientation a bit.

The second one, although is equally as sharp. A closer crop didnt really do it for me. So I cropped it a little wider.
