London poker scene

    Evening all
I've just moved to London (Turnpike lane/Wood green area) from Dublin. I used to be a semi-regular cash game and tournament player in the fitz, and also dabble in the odd pub tournament, so i'm used to different standards. I have no idea about decent clubs or their whereabouts over here though, and thought that you fine bunch of fellows might be able to give me some info?
    Thanks in advance

The biggest in London is The Vic I believe, but the gutshot probably best resembles the Fitz in terms of size of games etc Google will give you m ore info on them.

Gutshot is cosy, good atmosphere, good restaurant and you can relax and have a pint. The Vic has good games and a strict dress code.

I still dont work for either company.

one thing about the gutshot(might just have been for hairy bum look-a-like me) is that you have to know a member to get in the first night you go, they made me bring my friend along to actually sign up, which i thought very weird

and the vic was good for cash games but i was only there during the big festivals, i personally went to the vic a lot more. went to the gutshot because it was more comfortable but i found the vic better but only due to the fact i had a bigger choice of tables

I've played in the Gutshot a few times, upstairs is ok and the food is good, but the poker area downstairs is a dump.

I was in the Vic for the first time on Saturday night, and while I didn't play, I had a good look around. The card room is much nicer, there's a bar very handy and overall the place looks good.

I also discovered the first craps table I've seen in Europe - that's what stopped me playing poker!

If you intend on playing on a regular basis I would think the Gutshot would be a better option as there is more of a club feel about the place. Whereas the Vic is an up market casino with a lot of the players just passing through.

Both to my knowledge hold regular tournaments & the Vic certainly have a wide selection of cash tables.

What's the legal requirement over there - i heard you can't just arrive up and start playing but need to give advance notice or something?

the 24 hour notice thing is casinos is now gone. You can arrive on the day with your passport & play away once joined as a member

LMFAO. Gutshot is pokey, Crap clicky atmosphere and crap restaurant.

Vic has loosest games and best spread.(shoes and collar required though)

Western in Acton is always empty

Loose Cannon is quite good with lots of eye candy, good food but gets small numbers. Lots of Canary Wharf types talking about economics.....
