...can I still hook up to SKY with a formal contract, and in doing so save myself a fortune on installation prices??

Whats the exact procedure....just do it over the phone and they send you out a card???

    Many thanks.:pac:

Basically, if you've all your equipment up and running, just call Sky, and tell them this and that you need a "second hand subscription" whereby they'll take all your details, send you a DD mandate to fill in, and then send you a viewing card.

You'll have no install charges to pay, nor will you need phoneline connected.

Will they charge me the €35 extra for not having the phone line??

I'm really trying to get myself set up on freeview and my parents set up on Sky, a basic subs, thats why I am looking for a PLus box online today....that way I can avoid them being fleeced €149 on the box and the extra €35 on connection.

What details will they want over the phone? The serial no. of the box, bank details etc???

    Cheers fella

They shouldn't charge you the no-phone-line fee, as the box and equipment won't be subsidised (you already have it).

Details would be the usual name, address, phone, DOB, payment details, etc. They'll then issue you a mostly filled contract for you to sign and return.

They'll not be requesting digibox number, they'll get those details when you ring to activate your card at a later date.

Suppose we flip the script a little bit: I get them to do a basic install, just a sky box, no trimmings, then I change to a sky+ box which I have sourced myself. Do they even have to know?? My intuition suggests that the box won't work cos the card isn't "mated" to it, and another phone call is needed?
Suppose another call is needed.....will they be demanding more money??

    Cheers.

Uhm for a basic Sky install, I think it's €45 install charge, plus additional €37.50 if not using a phoneline. Then you'd need to change the LNB with a quad LNB if it's not already done.

You will need to ring them again when you change the box to pair the card, and more importantly, to activate the recording features. No extra money should be required.
