    Hi all,
I'm looking for some guidance regarding stiff or regular shafts for drivers.
I am in the market for a new driver, im playing the game about a year and am starting to (finally) get to grips with it -thanks in the most part to some exellent lessons from the pro at mount juliet - anyway i was given a pressie of some golf vouchers and reckon i deserve a shiny new driver, i tested the new TM burner 10.5deg regular and cleveland hibore xls 10.5deg regular, of these i prefer the hibore, i was able to hit it fairly consistently 200m+,
I'm jusr wondering how do i know if i would benifet from the stiff version?? (before you ask, the guy in the shop only had the regular to try out)
Is the stiff shaft for super fast swinging pros or can a joe soap like me make it work?
    Thanks

Go to the shop and get trying them out on the simulator or if its at a range then try them out there. Stiff shafts are generally for faster swings think its 100mph+ but dont quote me on that. I had a regular shafted driver but had to change to a stiff shaft becuase I have a fast swing and it made a good difference to the accuracy of my drives but i still need a lot of practice. Any decent pro should be able to tell you almost straight away whether ur swing suits a stiff or regular shaft.

You will find big variances in the different shafts from the different manufacturers. If you can at all try and demo a few clubs and vary the types of shafts. More shops have demo clubs and they will happily let you try them out. Personally I use a regular shaft in my driver, I play off 6, but I have a slow swing. You could find that a particular club you like with a stiff shaft may suit, you know what I mean?

It really all depends on your swing speed. Go somewhere where it can be tested and they will let you know what shaft is appropriate.

I have a swing speed of over 100 and therefore knew I needed a stiff shaft, however......had my heart set on a TM 460 until I tried one out in Green18 and the pro advised me against the TM as even with the stiff shaft they have a softer tip (kick point I think is the term) so that would negate the stiff shaft for me.

Deffo get some analysis done before you purchase, most places wont charge you if you intend to buy off them. In the end I didnt buy from Green 18 as at this time I didnt want to spend too much and picked up a second hand Cobra but if you have vouchers I would definately recommend them (assuming you can get to Sandyford easily?)
