Rite i've a really important question and really im looking for someone who actually knows the answer.

Rite lets say u get 25% out of 30% in your continueous assesment and u fail ur summer exam but get lets say 16% worth altogether from it. So in total you have 41%.

does this mean u have passed that module or not??

i think u do but haven't heard anything about it and people tell me u must pass ur exam... really would like to know this.. great help.

I would imagine it means you've passed. Although for some modules (e.g. 1st year chemistry) you have to pass both the Continuous Assessment and the summer exam.
You should check the book of modules and read the requirements for passing your module. If it doesn't clearly state that both summer exam AND CA must be passed, I'd say you'd be ok with 41% overall.

usually as long as you pass overall it is ok however some course do stipulate you must pass both the c.a and exam to pass overall. check the book of modules on the ucc website to see if that applies to your module.

I've been wondering that as well, I've been told the same thing as the OP by a few ppl, but in the "marks and standards" section in student Administration it doesn't say it at all, and neither does it say it in the book of Modules, other than "Pass Standard and any Special Requirements for Passing Module: 40%.

Ha, tok9, you just got owned!! Now, if I was to do a favour for you, I'd recommmend either you use the spellcheck button (it's that button with the tick and the little abc in the top right corner) or else stop being so lazy;)

Yes, yes it does. I cannot stand text speak but than again i don't understand half of it so maybe i'm just jealous.;)

If it says the pass standard is 40% i'd take that to mean it is 40% for your overall years work, surely they would specify if you needed to pass both seperately. On the other hand i've just failed an exam that is still in progress and i'm doing my finals so you may be better off ignoring my advice.

It's noted in the book of modules whether you need to pass both separately or not. Normally you have to pass the exam if there is one. Sometimes you also have to pass the continuous assessment as well. It depends on the particular module in question, and it differs across courses too.

Edit: As you've already mentioned. I need to read threads more carefully before replying. ;)

It's frowned upon in some forums but generally no one cares so long as it is readable. It's not really text speak that was the problem but years ago people used to post in 1337 for some reason, which wasn't even remotely readable if you weren't used to it if they went overboard with it. If you don't know what 1337 means, consider yourself both luckier and less geeky than I. :p

Why on earth would a mod read every post carefully?!:)
