How much are blood tests likely to cost?

My doc wants me to go to St Vincents Private Hospital for blood tests.
Apparently you just walk in and get tested (as long as you have a form from your doc with you).

I have Bupa Essential Plus coverage, but cant seem to find out if this is covered?
Worst case scenario how much are the blood tests likely to cost?

afaik, the hse foots the bill for most gp bloods sent to public labs. you get charged if it goes to a private lab like the bons, think its a flat fee for the most part.

your gp would have told you if you were going to be paying when you got the blood drawn so you wont be charged there. if you were going to be charged the gp would have taken it off you by now.

It cost €50, a flat fee, the last time I was there back in April (diabetic and fertility check up). It is not covered under VHI but you can claim tax back at the end of the year.

That's odd .. when I went to see a specialist at St. Vincents Private earlier in the year, he said to get the blood tests I needed done via my GP instead of through them as it would be cheaper that way. It cost me €65 IIRC which would be more expensive than what you quoted, although it may depend on the actual tests performed I suppose (two of them were rather obscure antibody tests as I remember).

Thanks guys, I was worried that it would be in the hundreds like the blood tests I had done a few years ago for allergy testing (in the Blackrock Clinic).

I got unusual expensive tests done as well but it was the blanket €50, I think that they introduced this about 2 years ago.

Supercell - good luck with the tests!

Depends greatly on the blood tests you get done.
