    Hi,
Just switched over to 3, a couple of weeks ago, i thought i was out of contract as it had been a year, and i was due an upgrade according to the shop.

Just got a bill there for €87. Stating a termination charge for the reason.

I was not even sure i had signed up for 18 months..... but maybe i did when asked.

Guess i have to pay up? Or it'll appear on the credit rating?

    Kwikk

No one here is going to suggest that you refuse to pay a bill that you owe so let me just say - if you owe them the money, pay them it.

Having said that if you're sure you were on a 12 month contract ask them what has caused the 18 months. Did you signup initially on 18 months and get some offer? Did you take an upgrade? Did you change price plan? Is it a mistake?

give them a call and be nice.

I completely agree, ring vodafone, say you were unaware you were in an 18 month contract so you ported to three. You could go as far as saying you'll return to their network-even if u dnt mean it it sounds better than im not paying it. Ring them on 1907 and be as nice as you can! best of luck

I just found out that i'm on at 18 month contract too, and not happy about it either.
I specifically asked them in the shop what advantages there were to getting an 18 as opposed to 12 month and said I wanted a 12 month. I'm currently on vodafone and am not planning to move in the immediate future but i'm sure i'll want an upgrade.

Thats the agents fault and not vodafones, I understant your slight frustration however this wont have an effect on your upgrade eligability- i no ppl on vodafone who get upgrades nearly every 6 months-it goes by time with them and your spend not your 18 month contract-this is only a commitment to stay to them

I got caught out with the same thing when I switched from Vodafone to Three. Couldn't be bothered with arguing with them about it though at the time.

ok lads im not being funny.. if u read ur contract in the shop it states whether its a 12 or 18 month contract-if u think they made an error check your contract from upgrade if u have it

I know, and that's what vodafone will say when I talk to them too. I presumed (yea, I know, again) that the guy was giving me the contract I asked for. It just pisses me off big time that after I made it clear I wanted 12 months he gave me handed me a contract for 18. It's obviously a common trick too by the looks of things.

Also, I just changed over from meteor a couple of months ago, my average bill is 50, any rough ideas when I can expect an upgrade?

at €50 a month you'd be looking at probably 18 months before you get an upgrade. Give them a call after the 12 months is up though giving a story about needing a new phone and they will probably give it to you.

Eh have to disagree on this one. Spin them a story if u want but i think u should ring them and ask how long till ur next upgrade roughly and say u need a new one that urs isnt working the best... if they say another 6 months try telling them u'll move to o2 for their 30 day notice contract if u'll be waitin that long but vodafone are normally good to give upgrades;)
