    The figures from 1990 on the amount of cars should include CO2 emitted per kilometre travelled and compare this with vehicles of today, it will be found that the per kilometre the emissions are much lower today. Also categorising car engines as "big >1.9" "medium 1.2-1.9" "small"<1.2" is completely missing the point, some diesel 1.9 engines produce less emissions than a much smaller engine, to label pollution based on engine size is a neanderthal approach and thankfully the Green Party element of our government now recognises this to a degree with the new CO2 based approach to car tax.
