I would like others opinions please -would a threat made against ones person(via phone) be laughed at if it were to be reported to the gards??

My husband is in dispute with his ex employer see
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055291349

He was phoned today by ex empolyer, who proceeded to rant and rave at him, telling him he was going to kill him if he went further(with complaints against him)

Now my hubby was not quite quick enough on the mobile to press the record button, but just got the last 10mins or so of the tirade. The *I'm going to effin kill you**watch out* stuff was just before. I think he should report it anyway -said person has already boasted that he has/can cause injury to others.

Guards are obligied to take it seriously but unfortunately without alot of evidence, it may be hard to prosecute. What action would you like seen against him? restraining order?

Yep report it. They can't do anything but if anything else happened it will all help your case.

If you think it's serious, you should report it. Guards won't be able to do much about it, but it will be good to have a record of it if the things will get even more serious.

Thanks -I dont expect the gards to act on it in any way at all -but I think it should be on record that a threat was made in case anything does happen -I am actually genuinely concerned that ex employer may take some sort of revenge action due to crap that he will shortly find himself in.

In that case, yes let the police know, tell them you're worried. You might want to contact a solicitor to give you more options to deal with it

Yes well, it will be reprted to the gards but I think a solicitor in our financial situation is NOT going to happen.....I actually think this guy may have been arrested previously for assault but we are not 100% sure, not that it is relevant, but even so...

If he has any kind of criminal record, the guards will take it an awful lot more seriously. I'm not exactly a legal guru but maybe if you tried posting in the lagal forum, someone might be able to give you an idea of actions you might have available? Freel legal advice in boards is great :D

could be, proven track record if already charged would help your case if anything happened (hopefully it doesn't though)

We phoned the gards and they told my husband to go by in the morning to report it.Might sound silly but the ex boss is a nasty piece of work, and quite frankly I wouldn't put it past him to organise something to send out the message *lay off*

I'd say it depends on which Garda you get. Some of them are just useless at their job and won't want to be bothered dealing with it.

    Generalise much?

Not really generalising. I did say some, not most or all. I've had a lot of hassle in the past with Gardai who just couldn't do their jobs properly. I've dealt with decent ones too but on the whole I've found them useless more times than they have been competent in their job. Varying problems dealing with, among other things, assault, theft and burglary.

Contact the phone network and ask them for a tape of the call. AFIK they can get it for you.

The report it and let the Guards deal with him. Vermin like him deserve to get every ounishment coming to them. Tough guy my ass.

What? I don't think Meteor record every conversation do they? We are going shortly to report it anyway, and then see.

Less of the unhelpful and sarcastic reponses, if you have an issue with a post report it.
Other wise you are being unhelpful and

Unhelpful and off-topic posting will get you banned from this forum.

The only information the phone company is about the call (account ID, phone number, GSM mast, etc), not the contents of the call. Otherwise they would be recording millions of minutes of calls per day.

They don't hand information out willy-nilly.
