    Hi,
Right so im with 3 pay monthly and my contract was up in january so was plannning on an upgrade. i missed a direct debit payment and the phone was cut off, so i sent them a check and continued using the phone for another month. Next thing they cut me off again even though there was money in the bank. turns out they never even looked in the bank for the moneny just presumed that i was going to pay every month by cheque???

so i just threw the phone in the drawer and started using a spare crap prepay phone.
thing is, i want to get a good phone again and keep my number(from the 3 pay monthly).
i ring them up and they say i owe them €200 and that i have to pay that before i can get any service back even though the phone was off all the time.

is there anything i can do other than to pay the money, can i not just take the phone number i want and port it to another network?

It seems like im talking to a brick wall when i ring 3, every thing they're saying sounds pre recorded, im sick talkin to them

You can certainly try taking porting the number to another network anyway.

What do you owe them €200 for as it sounds like you actually used it but didn't pay the bill. you can argue that they shouldn't be charging you for any months that they had you cut off as they did not provide the service to you while being cut off.

Would the €200 be to cover the handset?

Need more info OP. Ring 3 and clarify why you owe the 200. It sounds to me like you are still within contract.

if 3 stopped your service don't pay them the €200. I know of numerous people who stopped payikng, got a nasty letter in the post from them but nothing more was done about it(broadband) but I reckon you should try porting your number to Vodafone prepay,o2 speakeasy or meteor prepay.that way if the port is sucessful to their network ur free from 3 and never touch them with a barge poll.. u may still get bills in the post-ignore them and they should go away(sounds like a joke)
just never go back to their completely stupid network... If all else fails either get a new number on a diff network or pay the 200... I'd personally leave them without paying and see where u get....!!!!:) H8 3:mad:

Oh let me be clearer then, i never made a call or sent a single text at all the last 6 months - as i simply wasnt able to. all i could do was call the 3 helpdesk from the phone.

when i rang them, i told them that i shouldnt have to pay while i was not using the phone and all they could say was that to start using the service again i need to pay the money owed.

@ Bluefrog - no, the €200 i "owe" to them is the 5 months tariff i was on

@ SDooM - my 12 month contract with 3 expired in decmeber 2007

I could try just signing up with another operator and try to port my number but i dont want any other operator to think that i am unable to pay the bill and blacklist me simply because 3 f*cked up. It was just a single month (and after xmas!!!) that the money wasnt in teh a/c
