Aertel via Sky

I know some stations on the Sky box have the digital text service, eg Sky Sports and BBC.

To get RTE text on my TV I have to press the text button on my tv remote.

My problem is that the last week when I do this "Not Available" comes up (RTE only). My tv is this http://www.directtvs.co.uk/Samsung_LE32A436T1D_32_Inch_HD_Ready_LCD_TV_LE32A436T1D/version.asp or something like it.

Is there anyway to rectify this?
Is it a Sky problem or just a simple setting somewhere?

Rebooting the digibox (unplugging or switching the box off at the wall for a few seconds) will probably fix this. Wait about 30 seconds after plugging the box back in to bring out of stand-by.

Also in addition to Gadgie, if the Sky remote is configured correctly to control volume on your TV, on the Sky remote if you press the TV button, and then the Text button, you will get teletext this way. Press Text to exit and press Sky to return to normal digibox controls.

I have sky hd connected through a HDMI port and for some reason aertel won't work through this. If I connect through an aerial port and watch on a normal channel it works fine.

I'm open to correction, but I believe the teletext stream isn't carried across HDMI

    Correct, not carried over HDMI.

Haven't used aertel in years - is there anything on it that you can't find on the net? Come to think of it it's available online:)

    Worked.
    Thanks a million.

I used to have this exact problem on a Grundig box quite regularly, didn't think it was still going around though. It seemed to be fixed in a software update.

    Just to confirm this...

If you're using HDMI, you can't use Teletext? How annoying is that? I get a nice new TV, Sky HD, it all looks great, but I can't use Teletext? I know I don't use it often, but there's nothing in any of the blurb saying 'warning: teletext will now not work'.

Is there any work around with this? Can I also connect my Sky HD Box to a different input at the same time as the HDMI so I can check Teletext on that input? Thanks...

    J.

As far as I know, you can use a SCART connection at the same time for Teletext. I find it strange that HDMI doesn't carry teletext but it's probably considered to be obsolete at this stage. Ireland is probably only one of a handful of nations with a full teletext service on digital - I don't know for certain but if the UK is anything to go by then there's not much left.

    Hi there...

Thanks for the reply. I might look at using a spare Scart Cable to connect the Sky Box to the TV on a different input, just to have Teletext. It can be really handy sometimes to check the scores or cinema times etc. if the PC is turned off! Thanks again...

    Jason.
