Ancient Voices recorded on pottery

Belgian researchers have been able to use computer scans of the grooves in 6,500-year-old pottery to extract sounds (talking and laughter) made by the vibrations of the tools used to make the pottery. (the interviews are in French, but you'll hear the pottery recordings as well).

Wow, thats mad. Seems so implausible that vibrations could be picked up that way but you can distinctly hear laughter alright.

I miss the days when you could buy albums on vase. I know digital audio has its advantages but pottery is just so much warmer...

I sometimes miss its vibe but I had to leave the clay vessel media behind, the storage was a killer and clients just wouldn't pay for it. But man do I mess that warm low end.

Mythbusters proved that this was not possible.

Ah yes, those timeless crockery classics.

    The Beatles - A Shard Day's Night.
The Smiths - You Just Haven't Urned It Yet Baby
    Suede - Glazy

And anything by Richard Clayderman, obviously.

Mythbusters proved it wasn't possible, but only at a large scale - measuring the specifically imprinted ridges in the pottery.

Theoretically, a much more high-res scan may be able to reveal more subtle imprints, identify them as speech and then amplify them. I'm still skeptical though. Is there a link to any kind of report?

Yes, we recently salvaged his rooms. It was an Auralex speced job that just wasn't performing right.

So they had a look at it, decided they could have speced it better and sent over an additional 9 cartons of stuff Free, No Charge.

    Willie is well pleased.

That's the kind of company I want to work with!

    Yes it's a hoax folks.
    Didn't see mythbusters...
Apparently it's been looked into though. Another study hypothesized that sound vibrations could be recorded onto the paint on a stretched canvas while the paint was still wet...

Paleoacoustics they call it, looking in lava flows for similar too.
Little enough to be doing those boys.
