Leaving for NY in a few days from Dublin. Everytime I've been over I have gone through passport control/immigration/etc here in Dublin but someone told me recently they have moved it all back to the states and you do it when you land. Anyone know what the story is here?

    Thanks

Last time I flew to USA was from Dublin and yes, we did all that stuff when we arrived in JFK.

However, I was recently passing thorugh Shannon (en route to Spain) and I saw the US Immigration set up is still there and in use so I'm not entirely sure what the crack is tbh.

depends on the time of your flight. last i heard all the morning flights were being processed in dublin and the lunchtime flights were being done on arrival in NY. hopefully for you it gets done in dublin as the ques for immigration in JFK can be horrendous.

Depends on where your flight departs Dublin airports too.

As far as I know only pier B has immigration facilities, yet often other piers are used for transatlantic flights as congestion is an issue in pier B (flight parking congestion)

Terminal 2 will have full immigration facilities to cater for all future capacity.

    Who are you flying with?

If you're doing it in JFK it'll take much longer than it would in Dublin.

I stood there for 10 mins while 2 women (massive women with guns so I didn't voice my complaints out loud!) chatted about the brownies she backed for her sons school class. Nonsense!

Yeah. It depends on the time of the flight. Last time I got the aer-lingus 5 p.m. evening flight to JFK, and the immigration was done when we arrived in NY and took 2 and a half hours of queuing just to get to the counter. About 6 jumbo jet loads of passengers arrived at the same time and there was only about 4 counter positions open for non-us citizens. hope its better by now. Mark

All the original flights are done in Dublin - the new routes - San Fran , Orlando and the later New York flights are not done in Dublin as US immigration in Dublin don't have the staff to do afternoons.
These don't clear in Dublin ( to the best of my knowledge !)

    American Airlines to Chicago
    Aer Lingus to Washington
    Aer Lingus to San Francisco
    Aer Lingus to Orlando
Aer Lingus Flight 109 to JFK
Continental Airlines Flight 127 to Newark
    US Airways to Philadelphia

Shannon retained it US immigration status and is in place for another 6 years. Dublin flights used to land in Shannon due to an agreement and you used to disembark to go through immigration.

It is still there in Shannon so fret not. Its brilliant arriving in the US and not having to do it. We arrived in MCO and just wandered past all the other nations queuing. :D
