If you caught his live show at Electric Picnic last summer, you'll see why he was one of the first acts Gilles Peterson signed to his Brownswood label. If you didn't, then get down to The Cellar in Galway and see what all the fuss is about! Ben Westbeech will be the very special guest in The Cellar for a night of Hip Hop & Drum n Bass with an injection of Soul! Support on the night comes from THE DISCONAUTS whose Saturday night show (every 3 weeks) in The Cellar is pulling capacity crowds. Tickets €10 are on sale from The Cellar Bar (091) 563966. The sound on the night is powered by FUNKTION ONE.

Ben Westbeech makes his very own kind of quirky, rough around the edges soul music. It’s not easy to categorise, but it’s what happens when a kid who was classically trained til aged 18 in cello, voice and piano grows up and gets into hip hop, dance music and sample-based beats. There’s something fresh and unusual about Ben’s productions and at the same time very accessible. A one-man musical machine, he builds tracks using a mix of samples and his own live playing, including piano and guitar. The result is beautifully listenable contemporary music with none of the shallow shine that might suggest.

Also working with DJ Die who features on Ben's solo album, Ben produces under the guise of LEAN on various hip hop and drum and bass projects. Current Mcs ben is working with are Sirplus, Dynamite, Mc D and Bugs. He also works closely with Clipz on Full Cycle Records and is constantly pushing the boundaries and merging genres.... Citing influences ranging from classical to drum and bass and jazz to hip hop. And as comfortable creating folky me-and-my-guitar gems as he is producing intricate synchopated beats on his computer - you may not have heard of him before now, but Ben Westbeech is a singer and producer likely to be in your ears for some time.

Ben recently appeared on BBC's 'Later With Jools Holland' alongside the wonderfully bizarre Bjork, indie rockers Editors and some bloke called Paul McCartney, who used to be in some band called The Beatles apparently.

He recently featured on Kraak & Smaak's soon to be massive summer hit, 'Squeeze Me' (available on download now) which is receiving huge support from BBC RADIO 1's Zane Lowe, Annie Mac & Pete Tong.
