The quad???

I'm now almost finished first year and i'm wondering is this whole no walking on the quad thing just a big plan by the gardener to keep the grass perfect or is there a better reason for it???


In case you don't know students aren't meant to walk through the quad until they graduate or they'll fail their exams!!!!

Nah, there's a guy on top of the north wing who shoots any undergraduates who walk across it... Only 3 people died this year, last year was bad though, think it was close to 13, those stupid biochem students... :pac:

Ah college would be boring without any superstitions/myths. Apparently the Boole library is sinking a few millimeters every year because the engineers didn't take into account the weight of the books!:D

the one about the library is a universal myth - just about every library in the world is sinking due to the weight of the books.

Oh didn't know the marriage thing, thought it was a similar exam thing, so when I walked over it in first year and failed some exams, I blamed that. Obviously not the constant going out and sleeping in til noon, god no!

I walk on that crest just about every day.

I also walk across the quad if I feel like it, but then again I already have a degree.

A few guys I know celebrated the finish of their final year exams by playing a game of cards in the middle of the quad.

They both got firsts..

I walked on the quad to meet Bono the day after the comm ball but that doesn't count cos I was still drunk and cos he's famous.

Well, I only know of one but I'm sure there must be more hidden about the place! The one I found is at the base of the North Tower under the arch at the back. If you face this you should see a masonic symbol at the bottom right. My other candidates are the Observatory, Windle Building, Geography Building and perhaps some of the walls. Incidentally there is the same symbol at the base of the facade of the AIB on the South Mall. There are probably loads more. The 9/11 troofers should be all over this one!

That is a real masonic symbol, the freemasons started as a stonemasons guild. Have a look at the sign on their lodge door on Tuckey Street.

During my four years (well technically three) at UCC, I always avoided walking through the Quad or over the crest. Our logical minds tell us that it's just superstition, but the dead weight of convention has a strange effect on our minds...

The Quad myth is no joke! Last year while looking for accomadation myself and 3 mates kicked a ball around the quad for 5 minutes before being ushered away by the gardener...come the end of October I had dropped out and the 3 other lads all failed their Summer Exams...Havent walked over the crest/through the quad since!!:D
