Edmondstown Vs Stackstown

Looking to play one of these courses on Thursday. Didn't think Edmonstown would be the better course as it runs along the M50 (afaik) but then I saw the green fees! €55 for midweek.

Stackstown has Padraig Harrington promoting it on the site, his "home from home" but its much cheaper...suggesting not as good.

Never been to either and both websites are pretty crap so which would you recommend? Am I being fooled by the price?

PS I don't normally go on price but one is almost twice the price of the other so said I'd ask.

    thanks
    Willy

Used to be a member of Stackstown many, many years back. They have improved it a lot since then and its apparently not as 'quirky' that said I havent played it in a long time.

Played Edmonstown around 5 years back. They did lose a few holes with the M50 but its not too bad. That said 55 for mid week is steep for the course in question.

I would go for Stackstown if it is cheaper as some of the holes are worth it. Note in many of the holes you will play blind approaches

Would definitely say edmonstown is the better of those 2 but if you have played neither try them both out over the summer.

Just had a look at the Stackstown Website there - didn't realise it was so close to where I live. Does anyone know if they're accepting members and if so, how steep is it?

Played Stackstown this evening, a quick nine holes, but as always very enjoyable track. Greens a littke bit hairy but running pretty slick. Haven't played Edmondstown in a long long time but think i'd still rather Stackstown. Sweet views over the City too,

Used to be pricey enough to get into and especially hard if you were a 'civie'. That said I would imagine it should be easier now as they and a lot of Dublin courses are having problems with their running costs and need to attract new members. Give it a year or two ......

Which one did you end up playing and how did you get on?

Its been suggested to me that a 5 day membership is avail for me in Stackstown. The chap offering is well connected in there and I get on very well with him, so I'm not sure if it's open season or just for me.

What would you pay? And of Dublin'ish clubs (from the city centre, psychologically facing south ;) ) is it as good as I'll get without a 10 year wait (I'm thinking the Castle - my 'dream' club)

interesting, it is quite near me and would be a good club me. Wouldn't say what I 'would pay' but if it is reasonable value snap it up imo..

Couldn't get a tee time in stackstown, Edmondstown had availability but I didn't want to spend 55 quid for what was pretty much my first proper round this year...in the rain...late in the evening.

So...I found a gem of a course in Slade Valley outside saggart. 30 quid midweek and I loved it. Fantastic views. Now we did hire a buggy, if I had walked it I'd probably be complaining about the climbs right now!
