    Hi,

We are in the process of booking a Honeymoon and South Africa has come up as an option. Doing a couple of night in Cape Town, Self Drive across country (Garden Route) and then a couple night Safari.

Now I have been hearing a lot of negativity about South Africa, high risk of robbery and the fact that its not a "safe" country.

Has anyone been there lately? Is there any cause for concern?

    Thanks
    Nedd

Most people have no problems at all.. Don't drive through cities after dark is something that you may be advised, but this really only applies to Jo'burg. There isn't a high risk of robbery although there is some risk. I drove around a bit although it was only around Cape Town and I never had any problems. That included driving at night, although in fairly upmarket areas (V&A Waterfront).
What time of year are you going?? Weather will pick up nicely from October onwards.
Lots of people drive the garden route so you won't stand out a mile or anything..
