Have searched for an answer for this in previous threads but couldnt find it so sorry if it has been asked before..

How much per hour is good for barwork?I work behind the bar in a well known pub/nightclub in dublin and more than three months after having started with no experience im still on ten euro an hour.

I suppose that isnt bad its just that most other employees have recieved a raise since starting or are on more money than me so that annoying!(although they have been there longer/work full time)

I love working in the place so don't want to move but does anyone think i could easily earn better elsewhere?

I'd say it's about average to be honest. I started on 10.50 per hour with no previous experiance and eventually worked my way up to 11.50 after a year and a half. Ask your boss about a possible raise ... if u went to another bar/ nightclub with previous expericance I'm sure you could get 11 euro + per hour.

Yea I did ask a couple of times but in fairness if i was him i wouldnt give myself a raise the way I asked.I practically asked the question expecting a no and should have been more demanding!

This week onwards im starting full time there because of no college for summer and now that im doing more hours that extra one euro an hour would go along way!

They gave an excuse about the owners telling them they wernt allowed give any more pay rises :(

Most jobs only give yearly raises.

I really think you're pushing your luck...

Sounds a little too perfect world but having worked in bars for years, this does work. Be super nice and you will make alot more money, the €1 will become insignificant, and your boss will spot it,

I realise this but its a little disheartening when pretty much everyone around you is recieving a raise after only a couple of months

But then again, i am only there three months....

I suppose its annoying me more because one of the managers said a couple of weeks ago that i deserve a raise and I should get one soon but when I asked him again another manager was also present and the answer was completely different

    thanks for the answers!

i always like throwing this in, but if you think you had it bad, 5 years ago in my first job, and quite possibly the most hectic i had, i was on €3.20 an hour. Then i started working in a bar and was making €7.50 and thought i was loaded :D

As far as I know, unionised bar jobs have a minimum hourly wage a lot higher than €10 per hour.

I worked as a barman in a hotel. The pay was crap, but there were lots of perks like as much free food as I wanted, etc.
