You've probably already completed a fairly detailed application form detailing times when you experienced various competencies. The interview will probably be based quite heavily on this. You'll be asked questions about the answers you have given on the application form. It's also a good idea to get a good idea about the various services the council is involved in - role of various departments, council members, etc. It won't be a group interview.

This is all based on Dublin City Council interview processes but I'd imagine it's fairly standard for all over the country. Good luck!

Preliminary interview will be quite short - around 10 minutes.
They'll ask you a little about yourself and a bit about what you know about the council, so do a little homework.
I did one on Tuesday and was told there were around 350 being interviewed with 60 or so going forward for the second interview.
This was for Cork City Council.

that surprises me. I had an interview for Cork City Council in April for the Clerical Officer panel. I got in a letter in early May informing me the panel had been formed and I was unsuccessful. Why would they be interviewing hundreds more again now?

Assistant Staff Officer, not Clerical Officer.
    I was unsuccessful too. :(
