It's Keelo-metre (ph). (not "meter", if you want to be pedantic

)

The reason being that there the suffix "meter" can be applied to other words.

centi-metre (not cen-tim-eter)
milli-metre

and so on....

I interchange between Kill-om-eter and Kill-oh-metre. Never heard anyone say Keelo-metre.

Same here. I think I used to say kill-oh-metre and then started using kill-om-eter aswell.

Now I'm sitting here muttering away kill-om-eter, kill-oh-metre, kill-om-eter, kill-oh-meter, kill-om-eter, kill-oh-metre... Ah this thread is confusing me, I don't know what way I say it anymore.

Whatever about the pronunciation of kilometre, why oh why can't people get it into their thick heads that the proper abbreviation for "kilometres per hour" is km/h !!! Not kph, kmph, kmp/h or whatever other strange combination of the letters kmp and h they come up with. Christ, even the matrix signs on the M50 that tell you how fast you're going have this kph monstrosity on them.

The only incorrect one there is kmp/h or km/ph, cos the "p" and the / mean the same thing. The rest make perfect sense!

km/h is the proper way to say it alright.

kph is just a holdoverway of saying it from mph

The kilometre per hour (American English: kilometer per hour) is a unit of both speed (scalar) and velocity (vector). The unit symbol is km/h or km·h−1; however, the colloquial abbreviations "kph" and "kmph" are sometimes also used in English-speaking countries, in analogy to mph, although these are not in accordance with international scientific standards.

Who ever uses k to refer to kilometres is doing it wrong. You're describing how many metres so you must include the m seeing as with just the k you have kilo. "Thousand of what?" becomes the question. The kilo is a prefix after all.

Also worthy of note is that "ohm" is the unit of electrical resistance.

But when the think about it, that's probably wrong becaue it ain't "Killo" its "Keelo". eg A "Keelo" of Spuds.

Anyway, I'd imagine it should be keelo-meeter. I read it that way but I tend to say kill-om-meeter (I want a phonetics guide right now).
