Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas

2000 Guineas on Saturday could see the rematch between Henrythenavigator and New Approach, they both pulled clear of the field in the english 1000 guineas and should go close again. However i have two e/w tips in this race.

Fast Company- was 2nd by 1/2 length to New Approach when drawing alongside but losing out in a battle. If New Approach is as good as everyone says then 1/2 length behind cant be bad and at 14-1 Fast Company is a massive price.

Rio De La Plata- was 2nd in the French Guineas despite having the worst draw, was 4th in same race as New Approach beat Fast Company but was hampered on his run and surely must get closer.

Cant see anything coming between the front 4 of New Approach, Henrythenavigator, Fast Company and Rio De La Plata.

1000 Guineas i have to go for the unlucky horse of English 1000 Guineas, Muthabara was badly hampered when quickening up and couldnt get through, still only beaten by 3 lengths. 12-1 is a nice price.

Possible danger for me is Saoirse Abu (USA) who was the horse really flying at the end of the English 1000, may need a bit furtherr though.

Not too sure who I'll be backing in the 1000 Guineas but I'm on New Approach again for the 2000, thought he ran a great race in defeat at Newmarket. A measured ride by Manning would seal the deal I think......BTW this forum has gone to the dogs:(:(

I do some writing for Betfair, so here's my thoughts on the 2000 guineas:

This race looks like a true cracker :) Thoughts are always welcome.

new approach had no excuse at Newmarket and looked trained to the minute for the race. On the other hand the vibes were tha Henrythenavigator would come on for the race (O'Brien sounded far from confident in his racingpost comments) and the faster the ground the better. Manning got a bit of stick in some quarters but while I'm in no way his biggest fan i don't think he did a whole lot wrong.

I see no reasons why places will be reversed and IMO Henry should be favourite. Just read on thesportinglife that Ibn Khaldun misses the race, there was talk on betfair that he's being aimed at the Epsom Derby (serious stamina doubts in his pedigree).

Forum is pretty quiet alright but I reckon NH racing is far more popular with those on here

Had Henrythenavigator on antepost for newmarket (mentioned it here last Aug / sept)

He favours fast ground which is why if cam short on late summer outing last year when the curragh was more like the bog of allen.

Newmarket was still a bit on the soft side, but today's gound in curragh is on firm side of good so I expect nothing less than a good win.

New approach isn't at best on good ground.

Kitty matcham for 1000 guineas, but purely opninon

Avoid Arch Swing later today - has not trained to her best in recent days and may need the run.

I don't like horses with excuses. Everyone thinks Nahood should have won the English 1000 Guineas. She was fifth. It looked good, but all she was doing was running behind the winner. If she got a clear run would she have passed her?
I backed Saoirse Abu at 65s for the English 1000 Guineas in the week before the race. She has won three times, all at The Curragh. She has won two Group 1s. Her form is solid.

Totally agree regarding Nahoodh.Often horses look like they are going easily only to find nothing when the opportunity presents itself. You have to be particularly wary when a jockey like Hughes or Spencer is on one of these as their very style is to get a horse to give everything on the bridle making you think they have a lot of horse under them when really they may have nothing. As far as the race goes Saoirse Abu has solid form alright but may not exactly be loving really fast ground.Weld's filly Mad About You interests me as she has also good form from last year and would appear to favour faster ground. The only negative is of course it's a guessing game with it being her first run of the season. The fact O'Brien is running 5 seems to suggest he doesn't overly fancy any of them and the rest of the field look average.

Henrythenavigator even more impressive this time probably showing he wasn't 100% at Newmarket.I guess they'll go to Epsom now.I hope they don't as I don't believe he will win there despite it being an average renewal and even if he does win it could signal the end of his winning like the recent winners.I certainly wouldn't run a valuable horse on a ridiculous track like that anyway. In value terms looking at the current Stallion fees winning a Derby means little now.The only thing left in it is the old fashioned and romantic prestige. This horse could win another few Group 1 8-10 furlong races and end up 3 year old of the year if they wait with him.

HTN increased his winning distance over New Approach, but I feel that was down to the ground more than ability.

There's no doubt the faster ground suits him more than New Approach but I also think New Approach has not improved from 2 to 3 and HTN has and is still improving.Time will tell of course if New Approach will improve for a longer distance. You'd imagine he should as he does not have the turn of foot to win a top class mile race but should be better grinding it out over further. They would have been better off going to Chantilly for the French Derby on Sunday as they would be likely to get good or possibly slower ground.
