    Well lads,
Our builder started the foundations of our house last week,
We are going to fill the cavity with the above insulation,
Ive done a bit of research and have got some advice from the limerick/clare energy agency
Was just wondering about peoples first hand experience of this?
Can you recommend someone good to supply?
Im in the process of getting quotes from someone in Bruff, Co Limerick and another crowd in Duagh, Listowel
    Any advice/help would be appreciated
    Thanks

I personally dont see the point in setting out and building a cavity wall and then completely bridging the cavity!! I have that stuff in my house and I dont think it preforms well at all but air permiability probably has a lot to do with it too

Apologies for bumping an old thread. Been searching for the answer to the following but cant find much info on it.

I am looking at pumping the cavity of my house (old house, no existing cavity insulation) with bonded bead, I have gotten prices from a few different companies. 2 of the companies say that you cannot use bonded bead where there are cables in the cavity. In my house there are a few cables going to outside lights etc. 1 of the companies says that the reason for this is because it can be a fire hazard, and the other says that it is because the bonded bead can wear away the sheating on the cable.

A third company says that the bonded bead will not affect the cables. Just wondering do any of you know if this is the case?? Would I be better off getting it pumped with something other than bonded bead??

    Thanks for any help.

perhaps look at a quilted insulation solution such as rockwool energy saver.

Syd the rock wool isn't as good in terms of thermal performance.

no, but it is better in terms of applicability to the ops situation...

I spoke to actual installers (guys on the ground pumping the insulation) and they say not to use the rockwool in a block cavity - as the rock wool sticks to the blockwork too quickly, therefore you are not guaranteed geeting a full fill.
the beaded insulation drops down the cavity before settling.
Check the nsai website and read the certs - what's allowed and what's not.

Apologies if this is a silly question but if the bonded bead can wear away the sheeting of electrical cables, can it also damage qual-pex piping??

The plasticizer from the PVC cable sheathing migrates into the polystyrene leaving the PVC brittle and liable to cracking and splitting. Any cables should be contained in conduits.

qual-pex is polyethylene... and youd need someone with greater chemistry knolwledge than me to tell you whether this reacts with electrical cables.!!

If pvc is used as the insulator for the cable then theoretically, yes, there would be an issue. Generally though i think an ethylene based product like EPR is used.... im not sure though what material is most common...

edit: sorry, misconstrued the actual question, does pvc (bonded bead) react with polyethylene (qual pex).....??? no is the answer as theres no plastizer migration, AFAIK...

    Hi Folks

I am thinking of pumping the remaining 40mm of my wall cavity which has already got 60mm kingspan foil back

Main reason is too avoid ventilation losses

Has anyone heard of any good/bad stories or know if there will be any problems?

    THanks

To be on the safe side, I am going to stay away from the bonded bead and going to get the Knauf Mineral Wool, I think its called Supafil, anyone any experience with this??

    Any recommendations on insulation installers?

I was told polypearl platinum bonded blown bead is good for my cavity but no luck yet finding out who installs it in Dublin. Can anyone help?
