Anybody run the Blackwater 10k in Monagahan yesterday?

Over 1,000 entries, and a great day had by all. Definitely one for the diary for future years. Great course around the picturesque Rossmore Forest Park.

I ran it!! Had a great day out. it was my first 10km, i ran the relay in belfast two weeks ago or so and decided to do this a few days ago. i was really happy with the organisation and everything, and it really is a beautiful course through the park. I was aiming to do it in under an hour and crossed the line in 59.18. i was delighted, i'm in the middle of training for triathlone so it was a good event to run before it.

    A few points on it:

The hills, one at around 7km, god the quads and calves were under pressure; it went on and on and even twisted round the corner

Water staions: there were only two and it was a hot day, i thought four would have been ideal. I did like the way every km was marked out for us

Overall it was a brilliant event; tough course but very well organised.
Also well done to Kevin Prunty who was giving massages to all runners in return for a 5 euro donation to charity; he's excellent at sports injury and it was a well spent 5 euro

Someone here must know the science better than me, but I think over 10km, taking on water more than twice during a 10k would not be necessary for optimal performance.

Don't know the science behind it either but personally I don't take water on board for anything under 10k. If I was running a marathon I would take very small amounts on board from 4 miles onwards.

For 10k I'm usually flat out and fluids don't always stay down. The temperatures would have to be in the high 20s before I'd even consider taking water on board.

Having said that a lot of people on this board comment about the lack of water stations in road races. Two for a 10k seems plenty to me !

Maybe global warming has hit Monaghan harder than the rest of the country :D

Yes. Its the Annual Credit Union 5k that you are referring to. Takes place some time during August. Date and time still to be determined.

Did this run yesterday - was a turnout in excess of 1200. I think my time was 49m33s but am unsure - does anyone know if the results are available online? I've been told would be but can't find any information.

Results will be available on www.visitblackwaterregion.com later today. If you want to PM me your name, I can give you your time and position.

Was a great day despite the poor weather. Put May 16th in your diary for next year!!!

For those who took part in the event yesterday, would you like to provide any feedback or comments related to the event?

Unfortunately we could do nothing about the weather!

Yeah, I was too slow: over 49 minutes!
