Gamboa looked like a bag of **** last night,........
the rumours going around are that his sparring partners dropped him a few times too.

So apparently he's sacked his entire (coaching)team .

Pity that , hope he comes right.
He looks a tremendous talent though.

Please try and post a link to this thread, as it gives
    posters something to work off......

    Thanks

    Walshb...

Not a big article but the bottom part is about the Gamboa fight.

Interesting to see Gamboa gain 12lbs in 24hrs. I would say it's a lot, but not unreal. I remember when I boxed at 8 stone (51kg). I'd weigh 8 stone at 8am (weigh in), and by the time I fought, 12 hrs later; I'd weigh 8st 7lbs. Maybe I wasn't at the correct weight, but I am certain I wasn't the only amateur boxer doing this...

The opponent gained 1 lb (131-132 lbs), so if anyone is not at their correct weight, it is Gamboa's opponent....

You put on three kilo's after the weigh in and did you ave any problem making the weight the next day or did ya have to do this. What also weight did you walk around at.Just curious because i use to walk around 58kg and make 57kg very easily but i never tried losin the other 3kg for 54kg cause i'm 5'10 and pretty skinny i always though i could make it but didn't want to kill myself cause i'm pretty skinny and tall.

Funny thing about Gamboa was that he weighed in at 128lbs, there was no need to do this as his opponent weighed in initially at 131. Would it not have been easier to weigh in at 132 and the put on 8lbs?? Baffling really.

Theres a link there WalshB - apologies , Will link in future.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3401891

Cant find the story on his sparring partners though.

Anyway , Im going to retract what I said about Gamboa ,.... I think we expect too much from him. Everybody expects him to breeze past opposition winning in a flashy Ko.

Gamboa had to dig deeper than I expected in that fight..... but still fought very well apart from being dropped in 4.

Still , show me a boxer who fights such a strong competition when turning pro. No easy pickings from day one.http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?cat=boxer&human_id=391770
He's doing it the hard way !

3.5 kg in 12 hrs and it was for the final, so I didn't have to make weight the following day. Had I to make weight, I never would have allowed myself gain much.
I walked around at 56-57kgs and boxed at 51kgs.

I'm 5 feet 7, so I was tallish for a flyweight, but I wasn't unique in that respect.
Aged 20 by the way, so I would have eventually moved to bantam and feather had I continued...

    Scalps?

No one that would be considered famous, but some very good fighters nonetheless

    I boxed out of Darndale

Just to explain this weight gain, or what I see from it...

Say you weigh at 112lbs at 8am, and you have been fasting for 24hrs
prior to this; it's quite easy to gain several lbs within a few hrs.

A litre of water/milk/juice is 2lbs, and you may consume 2-3 litres of
liquid thru the day; so this is almost 7lbs in liquid alone. Now you will
at some point get rid of maybe 2-3lbs of this, but remember, you also will have eaten
maybe 3lbs of solid food as well as your liquid intake.

That's why IMO, it's not all that unusual to gain a lot in a short space of time...

It was for the WBC International Super Featherweight(130) title , so Gamboa did have to get down low(although not quite to 128) . Jimenez , failed to make the weight .

One reason Gamboa went so low is his camp may still be thinking of winning titles down at Featherweight which imo is very possible . Other than Chris John the rest aren't great , and that includes 'wonder prospect' Jorge Linares who many are raving about .

Thanks, thought it was at a catch weight, how could Jiminez not make 130 when he only weighed 132 for the fight?
Surely a quick trip to the toilet would have got him down a pound from 131?

god knows , maybe he didn't want to pay the sanctioning fee for the crappy belt(3% of purse) .

What's the point in a trip to the toliet when more than likely there's nothing to deposit??

He probably got as low as possible and was not capable of lower

Isn't it the last few ounces that are the hardest to shed???
