Will The Sky Engineer Install A DUAL LNB For Me....Can I Do It Safely Myself??

.....If I hand it to him as he is going up the ladder, or will he be contractually obliged to just do what SKY have asked him to do??

My situation is that my folks are not comfortable about having two satellites on the house.

I have an old sky box which will do for my room for freeview/FTA and they are getting Sky proper in.

I wanted the engineer to take a dual/quad LNB i have and install it on the satellite he installs as part of his call-out from SKY, in the place of the single LNB which comes as standard.

Then I get me coaxial and just hook it up to my old Sky Box.

My guess is he won't do this, preferring to just stay within the official parameter of his call out.

If he doesn't do this, can I safely take out the single and stick in a double without either

{A} disturbing the sensitive dish alignment?

{B} ruining my parents sky connection:eek:

Are there any other issues I should be aware of???

    Cheers.

I'd say he'll change it. If he's going up the ladder anyway, I can't see why not.

Anyway, usually, it's just a straight swap of LNB.

Grand, cheers. I will be doing this over the phone, via SKY, I am not dealing with a local installer.

I was wary of jumping the guy and handing an LNB and asking him to do something he wasn't called out to do!! Sometimes you get guys who are real jobsworths who can't be arsed helping you.

    Thanks again.

The main thing is to have €€€€€ ready when you ask the sky installer

Is this a new installation? If so, it should make no difference to the installer which LNB he sticks onto the dish!

Offer him some tea and biscuits maybe as a gesture :)

All i am saying is you should ask him how much he will charge you to fit the quad lnb you all ready have and run a second cable to you existing sky box??. If he does it for Tea and biscuits fair enough throw him a tip. Bear in Mind he is an underpaid sub contractor who works on commission he might not have time for a cup of tea

Do you expect him to do it for nothing? You should fit it yourself so.

I would fit it myself if I thought I could do as good a job as he can....I have no problem asking him to fit the quad/dual, and dropping him a tenner, as long as my arm isn't being twisted. I have no gripe parting with money, its the arm-twisting I can't stand. That said one of the lads has made a point about him being an underpaid contractor and thats a valid point too- maybe I will have a tenner handy and ask him to do me a favour.

My father was wondering how happy the contractor would be to be installing SKY and then helping someone with a free box!! I explained to him that the subbies are not SKY Salesmen, just engineers!!

    Anyways thanks for your help.

A tenner should be fine. I think you are being a bit harsh on someone you have not met yet. If it was me i'd just fit it for you as it does not add any extra time for the job so i'd ask him and if hes happy to do it and does a good all round job then tip him.
