MCE Infra Red Receiver question

At the moment I have my media pc in my bedroom and I use the mce remote and keyboard with it. I also have a projector in my bedroom connected to this pc. Now I'm thinking about moving the projector and projector screen downstairs, and mounting the projector to the ceiling. However if i move my pc and xbox 360 etc downstairs, the wiring will be very messy coming from the projector ceiling mount.


So I'm thinking about leaving my pc etc in my bedroom but have the cabling neatly going through to the celing to where the projector is mounted. So if this is possible I want to be able to use the mce remote downstairs but the mce infra red receiver itself would still be left upstairs. Is this possible? (i.e any infra red extender that connects to the infra red receiver)

I don't know if there's any such extender but I've done something similar using this connected to my router which is in the living room with the projector:

So, when I'm using the projector, I take the USB IR receiver and plug into the hub in the living room, then take it back to the bedroom when I use it there - you could probably have two IR receivers rather than unplugging one all the time an just disable the one that is not in use via Device Manager but this is not exactly the cheapest solution... Still, it works well enough and you can use the hub for all kinds of other things you want to remotely connect to your PC (like HDDs, printers, scanners, etc - unfortunately, USB TV tuners, cameras, etc are out of the question...)

If I can pick one up cheap, they use RF not IR and so can both types of remotes can be used at the same time.

No bargains atm, but considering how cheap they are here
