I want to remove the backing plate from my P90. The plate in question can be seen to the left bottom of this photo (where the screw is). The gear box seems be secure when removed, and when the battery is install it is still pressed forward. I just want to make sure that its ok to remove.

nope, you'll need to leave that in, if you take it out, a bump will loosen the gearbox. Why do you want to take it out though?

To fit a larger battery I assume.

well it's already been trimmed down to fit a J type 9.6v by the looks of it, there's not much larger you could fit in there. If you want higher voltage you could use smaller cells than the ones in the J battery

It fits the larger battery buts its extremely tight, I'll have to look at alternatives to get more space.

what type of battery is it your using?

did you modify the gearbox backplate and the butt plate yourself or was it done that way when you got it?

I'm using this type of battery. The image of the P90 isn't mine, it just one I found on the net, WGC did all the modifications for me, and it looks very professionally done.

you have been better using an L shaped 9.6 ,similar to what i use less mods and not as tight fit

Yea, but the J shape battery has Sanyo cells and a higher capacity than the L shape one.

Boston: Mine has the same mods, it's a slightly tight fit, but once you do it a few times it's not too bad. Try leave as much wire as you can on the gearbox side of the battery to keep it out of the way.
