Sorry didnt know where to post this... Feel free to move Mod!

Does anyone know how emergency tax works..?

I started a new job last Monday, will be getting paid monthly. First payment is due on the 23rd of this month... (part-time)

I've never worked so could not produce a P45 however I did submit my PPS number... Does anyone know if I will loose a big chunk of my wage..?

I've looked it up at Revenue.ie, but haven't a clue what it all means.. anyone even provide info in laymans terms!!!]

    Thanks!!

    You don't have a P45 that that's ok
You need a form P12A. This shows your allowances.
Get this from the local Revenue office and hand it to your employer.
Dunno do you get the money back in a cheque, they might just adjust your tax credits for 2008. You'll get it back eventually.

    It's realy not that complicated

You are in Dublin so ring these guys on 1890 333425 if you want more info
They are pretty helpful, just have your PPS number ready when you ring. And call good and early in the morning and be prepared to spend 10 minutes plus on hold

You will get it back in your wages when you've sorted all your details out. If this is your first job you shouldn't br paying tax for a while as you'll have accumulated five months' credit.

you need to get the following:

    1) employers registered number
    2) your employee number

ring the revenue on the number in previous post, give then these details, should be sorted after a few weeks.

If you ring revenue with these details, including your PPS number, they should be able to calculate your tax credits over the phone. You can then give them to the payroll department.

It's quite likely your first months pay will have no tax whatsoever, but your second months pay will be at the upper tax rate. Just make sure you have your tax credits before then and you'll be grand.
