Make sure you consider the cost of your car post July with the VRT changes as it's unlikely it will arrive in Ireland before the changes come into place.

It's funny you should mention that. I was talking to Sean Byrne @ Man O'War. He said that there is some loop hole where by if the car was registered in another country that it then would still conform to the old tax system.

The Loop hole being people people immigrating to Ireland with their cars which were already registered in another country before July 08. shouldn't have to pay high motor tax. Or something to that effect.

Now I have yet to investigate myself but the likes of japcars.ie, per4mancecar.ie and northside automotive don't seem to be to worried about the new tax system.

has anyone else heard anything about this?

Yes the motor tax wont change from current system on imported cars with an original registration date prior to January 2008 but the VRT on them will.

how do you judge their reputation?
I think they are a bad company to deal with. the reputation is built normaly when you care about your customers and not when you only care to take their money. yes- they suply lots of good cars but it is not their merit, it happends that jap imports come with low mileage and in good nick- they are only the middle man. but if you get a lemon from them, they will ignore you. Once they have your cash you get attention only when you buy more cars from them till the point you hand over the cash again!!!
There are links and examples on this site, just check.....
