Shouldn't be much hassle getting a ticket outside.

I'd say you'll get in alright. I'll be in Croke Park. I have an interest in any championship fixture, but the one in Pearse Stadium has a significance in that it is the two counties of my parents that are meeting. (Yes, I'm a Dub with non-Dub parents). The late father of the Roscommon manager was a very good friend of the family, and is buried in the cemetery in Roscommon close to Hyde Park.

With a few minutes left the answer is: Yes.

An absolute slaughter unfortunately. Apart from the second part of the first half they were awful.

well I decided not to travel!
Gary Cox made a bad call, think he was the deciding factor for the lads.
hard luck, down but not out, lets hope

Gary has been prone to making the odd error in judgment over the years, cant fault him for effort, but his best county days are long behind him.
Ros got a fair whipping today and a good lesson, Galway while not overly expending themselves clocked up a convincing scoreline.
Was impressed by some of the younger guys showed great heart, o'gara and Devanny in the first half, but these guys shouldn't be expected to be the leaders and a few of the older guys need to show more spirit and effort. (What I have been saying all year!)

We have 2months to work hard and we'll see how much they progress, I'm sure Mike Ryan will have the full support of his panel and will put in the hard graft with them.

In fairness to Ros I thought that they put in good effort. They had 2 great goal chances in the 1st half and along with the sending off of Cox and the not sending off of Cullinane the game could have really swung in their favour.

They will have learned a lot. Mannion must play in midfield and leave Kilbride at FF, play Heneghan from the start and hope the young lads continue coming on at the pace they are. They have a few weeks now to help get their house in order, without the Div 4 teams the qualifiers will be tougher but there are still a couple of teams they could take.

this isnt sour grapes, but I did think the ref made a lot of bad calls at the start,it take time to settle into it and I thought he did come down v.hard on the rossies,
if Johnny Dunning hit the back of the net in the 1st half with that shot we would have been lifted and I do think although Galway shone, had we gotten that goal the players would have been on a roll.

Was really surprised he managed to stay on the full game, sometimes refs nearly send off someone to even it up and send off someone harshly, but he could have no arguments (like G cox) if he had got the line.

To be honest as a relative neutral (Mayo) I think that ref is poor, he wasn't biased in any particular way just poor. He's generally fairly whistle happy, even in clean enough games, which is never a good idea as players end up getting frustrated. But then he seems to back down from making tough decisions, like the Cullinane one which although harmless enough was cynical and worthy of a yellow. The thing is he saw the incident and only deemed it worthy of a black card which is arguably worse than not seeing it - at least then he would have an excuse

Was that ticking when he was already on a yellow? Imo, a ticking is a warning, if your shown the yellow, its a final warning and next is red. I dont understand a ticking after already getting a yellow at all.

A ticking is not a warning as such.It is more like a noting of a certain player and then next offense is an official warning. The ticking system is accompanied by certain rules which if repeated lead to a yellow. So whereas a player gets boooked and commits a minor/non serious foul will be warned not to do so or next is a second yellow and red.

The ticking system will be done away with soon enough though so either you are just penalised with a free or you get carded.

There have been times when I've been more sympathetic to a player already on a yellow but more often than not,I've had to send off players with no regrets. It all depends on the nature of the foul which makes it easier/harder to send somebody off.

As far as Roscommon were concerned the worst thing the referee did, and it could be said of the ref in the Carlow v Meath match too, was throw the ball in. :)

Have ye ever noticed how quick refs are to pick out big players? Just an observation...

Roscommon at least made a fight of it for 35 minutes, but poor old Carlow got an awful roasting and it's hard to see any hope at all for them. God knows what the score would have been had Meath been at full strength. If the Ros players are committed to the cause (i.e they don't sod off to America) they have 2 months now to work on improving their game. Yesterday they dropped the heads once Galway got on top and the scoreline probably flattered Galway a bit. I've a feeling we'll beat Leitrim handy enough aswell. They're hard to beat on their own patch but not so good away from home.

I don't know if it has been passed yet, but I thought there were plans to restrict intercounty players going to America unless they held a J1 visa

In Culinanes case, he got the yellow, then the ticking for the little kick out

Do you mean big physically or big name players? Culiinane would be one of the biggest guys on the field, and bigger than cox who got sent off!

Yes, Cullinane is 6 6, I'm not defending him for one minute but I just observe from other matches how the bigger players get spotted doing wrong quicker. Maybe I'm all wrong in that though!

Can't say I noticed it much myself, but in most cases bigger players are usually slower, clumsier and more awkward and hence tend to give away more frees

Good point, they do tend to be clumsier alright. All legs & arms as my coach used to say!
