    used him a coupla times...no problems...about €400 to Carlow I think...extra to your door..

I won't use him again. The last time he brought a car in for me it went 'missing' for a few weeks and when he would eventually answer his phone he gave me the sob story about his driver walking off. He wouldn't tell me where the car was and I had to just wait. I was so annoyed with him. I heard about another guy a few weeks later who got the same story from him.
The last 2 times I used a guy in Laois. His name is Val (087)2996127
Good rates and will deliver to your door.

Just wondering is it necessary to get a car taxed and mot'd if you are driving it back from the UK yourself. Seems like a waste of money since I will only be driving it across for a few hours then it will be registered Ireland. Or can you get 1 day tax?

I used to do just that BUT if you try it now and get picked up on the Police's ANPR as an untaxed or uninsured vehicle they will confiscate it on the spot...and you wont get it back until such time as you prove it is Taxed and MoT'd and Insured (hard to MoT it in a pound isnt it) and it will cost you recovery and storage (and a fine too I imagine...)

I had to mot / tax / insure mine before I left the country. Mot isn't a complete waste as it keeps the insurer happy. Insurance is must. Tax can be bought either for 6 or 12 months. 6 months cost half +10%. You can return a tax disc for refund for every whole month on it. So no you can't tax for a day, but you could effectively tax for 1 month. If it's pre-73, the tax would be free anyway - just have to apply and display a valid disc.

I don't agree with that. As the customer surely you can ring to ask where your car is? I found that after 3 weeks and still no car and no idea as to when I can expect it, just a little too much. I have used Val in Portlaoise since to bring some cars back and he was excellent. Not only did he answer the phone but he also rang to let me know when he expects to be at my place.
I know of other people who have had the same problem and since there are other people doing the same job I don't see why you should run with 'don't hassle him' when you're paying €500. If I ran my business like that I wouldn't have many customers left.
    Anywhooooo, just my opinion!

just as an aside...I taxed a car for 3 months on about the 28th of the month (from the following 1st) and then drove it home and surrendered the tax disc immedaitely and got the whole three months back....:o:cool:

That's interesting because I was told by the DVLA that I would need a UK insurance policy to apply for a UK tax disc.
