Cycle Carrier

Hey guys, you may or may not be able to help me here but worth a shot.

We have a bicycle carrier which would be getting on for about 15 years old at this stage. It is one of the ones which attaches on to the back of your car using straps. It is manufactured by a company called Rhode Gear and the model on it appears to be 'Super Shuttle'.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the straps on carrier which attach it to the car are beginning to wear and need to be replaces. I gave Hollingsworth (the nearest bike shop) a ring there a few minutes ago and they said you can't get replacement straps for any rear mounted carrier of that type.

Just wondering is there a second opinion out there on this and if so where would we be able to pick up a set of new straps?

    Thanks in advance

you might not be able to get brand specific ones, but you will certainly be able to get roof-rack luggage straps which will fit - just use the mounting hooks and stuff from the current setup, and use the webing from the new straps, get someone like a shoe repair place to sew the straps if needed...

Thanks for that advice, finally got around to doing the job today. Bought nylon webbing from the Great Outdoors and got a cobbler to sew it onto the existing brackets and that. Total cost came to 7.50 euros, alot cheaper than the 90 euro a new carrier would cost!
