The bitching thread

Hey folks i had a bit of an idea and thought i would float it out see what ye think

Given that championship times are upon us and given the mass amount of traffic this forum will receive from not only the staunch supporters but also the people who's enjoyment of gaelic football and hurling only stretches to the summer months there will be a sharp increase in the amount of bitching and flame wars so to speak.

To circumvent this and so that posters like myself and others who dont be arséd with it dont have to deal with the crap that goes onwith it, what if the mods were to create a sticky thread where it is just pure bitching/venting? I have seen several times now in recent weeks things mentioned in the charter and updated thread "posts regarding dublin/ulster/whatever" and no bans handed out despite it being in plain english not to say certain things.

So what think ye of this? I think there will be some people who will spill the bitchiness over into decent threads but this sticky would take alot of it away

Have included a poll so ye can say what ye think

Is the "Bitch thread" a good idea? 22 votes

    Yes i reckon so,gaaman is a genius!!!

Report the posts. Unless myself & smashey are really missing something, anything reported with has been dealt pretty damn lively. Anything we've caught that hasnt been reported has been dealt with too.

I'll let smashey call on the thread thing :)

Be careful when sitting on that fence. You'll get splinters in your ar$e.:D

While I can see where GAAman is coming from, I'm not too sure about it. Bitching/venting could lead to a lot of arguements from people with different viewpoints and we would have the possibility of a flaming/trolling war.

    Something to think about.

Tbh, it'll just be an excuse for people to say whatever they want and think they'll get away with it. Should there be any rules in this thread or are you basing it on The Thunderdome? Just report any offending posts and try not to feed the trolls. Simple really?!;)

    -1 from me so.

I'll quite happily ban anyone who causes problems.

It would end up being a huge meandering thread, with too many arguments to follow. As we've seen before, when some let rip we can end up with a single thread that goes on for pages on just one argument. It's a nice idea in theory, but it wouldn't work in practice. It's better to have several threads, and let them spring up naturally. At least that way you know what you are bitching about or defending when you go into a thread.

Not a bad idea, but what's to stop the trolls from posting on the other threads?

Exactly. There is no way you can confine it all to one thread. It is part of the championship that we have loads of threads. This is the busiest part of the year for this forum, with all sorts of newbies coming in to join the regulars. We've have all sorts of threads, good and bad. It wouldn't be the championship without it.

Also, and very importantly, if things are spread around lots of thread it's easier to see who'll win the All-Ireland moaning championship here. Cork posters were the clear winners last year with all the moaning we got about them having to travel. On that basis they'll be disgusted that the strike was settled and that they'll have to travel to matches this summer. So I am sure they'll be hoping to be knocked out early in both championships so as to save them a fortune, unlike last year.

We hadn't got Boards.ie back in 1990. Still, you can imagine how outraged they would have been that year having to go to so many matches and to two finals and then the journey back with Sam and Liam in their possession. What an expensive year that would have been!!! From what we saw in this forum last year there is no way they would want that to ever happen again.

Most of it isn't too bad. Was amazing the amount of posts after the Dublin V. Kerry match though.

PML. Maybe we should keep this thread for bitching!

I do agree some of the posts from Cork where hilarious last year. You'd swear they where the only county that had to travel to Croker!

I think in theory the idea is good but as Flukey said in practice it probably wouldn't work.Obvious flamers and trolls should be reported and banned but I'd like to see an option where a dispute can be elected for the Thunderdome.

Anyway, the bannings have died down for now.I don't envy poor Kaimera and Smashey come June,July and in particular August when the forum goes crazy.

Well i was thinking along the lines of if it is made very clear that posting shíte on other threads would result in a stronger then normal (ie maybe even the whole championship for example) ban im sure it would be confined to the one thread like.

Oh and in case the mods took offense none was intended i was thinking there would be more control over structured chaos rather then just seeing what happens when Dublin do well :p

Thats a small part of the idea though, let them get all their huffing and puffing out telling us all about ciaran whelan and mark vaughn etc etc on a thread we wont take seriously while we get proper threads to converse intelligently(well some of us anyway :D ) on

Does that mean particular incidents couldn't be discussed in the match thread, for fear of offending some sensitive fans? eg. Dublin's disciplinary record, Graham Geraghty...and whatever else there may be. Where exactly do you draw the line? If a poster is out of order/breaks the charter, then they're dealt with by the mods. If somebody wants to bitch and moan, then go to PI or the Thunderdome.

An Citeog look at the two words before the bracket in your quote of mine. There is a big difference in talking about an incident and going on like someone has been shot, and also hearing the same old things year after year

Oh and whoever changed the poll, no chance :D

    Dublin Dublin Dublin!!!!!
I am sick to death of it!!!
I noticed that somebody cleverly set up a Dublin discussion thread which I think is a wonderful idea.
However we are still getting these nothing thread subject matters like (nothing personal now Blackbelt) 'Brennan out, Griffin in'
Surely not a topic that deserves a thread of its own??
Brennan?? Who the cluck is Brennan???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Brennan is a St. Vincent's man, which is Blackbelt's club. Actually Paul Griffin is a Kilmacud Crokes player, which is my club.

Tom,nothing personal here either but posters can make threads on anything relevent once it has got to do with GAA.Anyway,I object to the Dublin discussion Thread for some reasons that has to do with the soccer forum. The soccer forum has way more traffic and with the amount of traffic and teams,it is more efficient to have general discussion there but here there is not as much traffic and news can be quite scarce.

Also,if Colm Cooper or Daragh O Se decided to quit Kerry and you were looking at this forum and saw a thread on it,you'd obvioulsy be more quick to learn about it as opposed to to a general thread which wouldn't entice you to click and read as quick.

I posted the result of a challenge match in the Dublin general thread as it was not too much the topic of huge discussion whereas I feel the exit and intro of Brennan and Griffin respectively was so thats why I posted a new thread. Not that I have to justify myself.

I made a thread about Ciaran Bonner a few months ago (Donegal player if you don't know) and there was hardly any discussion on it.So should we make a general thread on Donegal?...don't think its merited.I thought that would have been a good discussion but it wasn't really and we have enough Donegal posters on here for it to be a big thread potentially.Just look at the last option on the poll.:p

Having general discussion threads is also boring. If this idea was ever implemented by the mods,I'd stop coming here.If the soccer forum didn't have this,I'd post there a bit too but I don't.

And finally,if you are sick of Dublin and any discussion on Dublin, again you don't have to read it.You can't force your views on people either about what they post and where they post it unless its irrelevent.
No disrespect again Tom but I'll continue to make threads whether its on Dublin or not or whether you are sick of it or not.You can't have a privelige for every county bar one.Its basic equality.

I don't agree with An Citeog idea but it is his right to create that thread.I personally prefer to keep topics separate.

Now I realise this is the bitching thread but I prefer to keep the above civil.;)

I would love to see that kind of a thread but I don't think the mods would enjoy so much crap from some idiotic posters.

I will let the almighty moderators decide.

Fair point on the Dublin discussion thread. First thing I thought when I saw it was this is copying the soccer section however there are so many dublin posters I think it is a good idea.
I shall even now start a Kerry GAA thread but call it just that ;)
Im sure your friend Brennan would be well chuffed by you mentioning him in the same breath as Colm Cooper and Dara O Se:D:D:D
