Ok, I can't remember the last time I had something up at the firing wall, but I'll give this one a go. I was making use of my new flash (580ex II) and my trust light tend...

Can't say it does much or me, too sorta arty.
Thats my opinion of course, I far prefer natural photos.

That tea just looks ugly to me. Not a very interesting photo... sorry:eek:

    Okay.

I don't know if it is just my screen which is prone to overbrightness, however, in all three, I find the details blown out a little too much for my liking.

Compositionally, I like 3 the best, would have angled for a little less tea coming out of the cup, and the other issue is the slight shadow behind the cup - I'd nearly prefer the photograph without it.

2: the DOF looks ever so slightly out of whack. The foreground tea and the detail on the cup are very soft. I think it detracts slightly.

1 is just too blown for my liking. Sorry.

thanks for sharing...I think it's good to see different stuff come in from time to time.

if there was something in the cup that's more appealing to the eye it might work....

It is still too much real to be "surreal".
I have to agree with Calina about the shallow DOF - there is no excuse in Light-box not to have correct DOF. In this case it does not look as intentional choice of shallow DOF.
I really LOVE that colour scheme and contrast. But I would like to see something surreal, impressionistic about those pictures. Push it forward, get rid of reality... :-)

By the way - to take pictures of something white on white background (or black on black bacground) is one of the tasks at most photography courses. And it is not easy, believe me, please. And I have tried to do that on film...

I think there's potential there, you're not getting as much out of the set up as you could!

Firstly, I wouldn't say high key, I'd say overexposed (The guys over on FredMiranda.com would be a lot more critical than that). If you had kept the details and lines of the cup, you'd get more out of the image. Instead of being 'high key', everything is out, if you either recovered the whites somewhat or reshot with the flash at a lower power.

If you were going for low depth of field, I'd try get in closer to make them a bit more abstract.

Content-wise, I know you don't want to get your light tent tea stained, but it could be very interesting if you tipped the cup over, full of real tea.

As it stands, if the images weren't as blown out, they could work well on a stock site.

Edit: And this is what happens when High Key comes up on FM; http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/645406

Skittles or MnM's in the cup would be nice. A strong, intresting contrast to the white-white background.
Maybe that's just me gumming for some sweets... :D
